strickland bemoaning the amount of work professors are expected to do and phdeac starting a consulting business.

Quality entertainment here - I need to check out these chat threads more often.

That's what I made for my post-doc starting in 2004. I'm pretty sure our starting salaries have grown significantly to $75K in the last 5 years or so. They were closes to $60-65K before that.

I turned it down and took a post doc for $60K, but it was in DC so cost of living-wise it was about the same. I turned it down not for money but because the older, soon to retire faculty that took me on a tour of town showed me the brand new municipal pool and then told me that they had been trying to get the pool built for 15 years but that people kept voting against it because they didn’t want a racially integrated pool.

Anyway, pslf programs are totally valid. I am fairly sure I could make at least triple my current salary if I took my stats and predictive modeling skills to Wall Street.

Around here, there's a well-to-do community on one side of the university where faculty who started 20+ years ago tend to live. On the other side of the university is a low-income community.

More recent faculty live in the suburbs and the further away is an indication of when they started.

Strick, we started offering around $75K a few years ago. Our last few hires have been very competitive so they may have gotten a bit more and significant startup to beat other offers. We have several long time associate faculty who aren't making that much more than that.

For as much shit as rubes on here give your dept, I imagine Ron DeSantis feels the same way. Think you’ll continue to be able to offer those salaries?

Juice did you ever work public sector or did you go straight into private sector after grad school?

So what is stopping you?

Plus this gives you and the family the opportunity to flee FL by hot air balloon to escape the oppressive DeSantis regime.

Angus is lurking on the chat thread now to take potshots at university professors?

Get the fuck out of here dude. This is not the place for that.

Seriously. This is a positive thread. Sure, we bust balls, but that ain’t it.

It’s probably hard for you to understand, so I’ll type slowly, but, money is not my motivator.

Angus has been embarrassed by his own 2nd grade level arithmetic skills and chart reading abilities too many times in the tunnels, so now he has to stop by here to try and look smart.
