Can Clawson Ever Have a Quality D?

If it is slippery enough, those balls will definitely squirt!
At least it should be strength against strength. When two big Ds smash into each other it's fraught with aggressiveness and can be difficult to take it all in.

I mean we won the division still by losing to Clemson and State beating them, so it's not over after this weekend, but it is if State also loses to them.

I'm glad we are moving away from the bend but don't break D, which always made me super uncomfortable. That type of scheme puts your D through unnecessary risk, imo. The downside is just not worth it.

in response to the thread Q we have made some incredible advancements in technology in recent years which should be able to help with anyone's D really let alone Clawson's

It’s fascinating to read some of these posts where you can’t immediately tell whether they’re serious or not.

Saturday afternoon, Our D better stiffen up inside the red zone if we want to leave happy and relieved.

Our DB's need to stay long and go deep with the Clemson WR's. The DL needs to use their girth to plug holes. Most importantly, the Deacs need to last at least 30 mins and not just one 3 and out. We need to give them a good pounding. Clemson should be sore and walking gingerly the next day.

3rd down conversion defense 7th
First down defense 27th
Rushing defense 57th
Passing yards allowed 39th

What is our miserable fanbase basing our D blows on? Liberty is pretty damn good. Our offense sucked0 against them. That's what needs fixing.
You should base our D on each year's numbers the last 8 years, not vs Liberty, Vandy, and ODU. If we only included the ACC games, you'd see a greater disparity.

You are arguing that different players and fired coaches from years past are a stronger argument than using the stats from the current defense?

As if the posts on this thread going completely over your head weren't enough of an indictment of your credibility

I'm a Wake fan tried and true since a little boy as my dad attended the old campus. I was the lonely fan in Triangle-area high school, but actually won over some sympathy fans when we beat one of the other Big 4. I saw Larry Hopkins (M.D. who recently passed) and 70 Deacs beat UNC for the ACC title.

At the game Saturday 2 Clemson fans sat in front of us. We actually had a good conversation throughout the game. When Clemson ran a fancy but failed play, they threw up their hands exasperated with a few choice words for their team and coaches. I tapped one on the back and said, "If they just ran DJ with an option, they'd get the necessary yards." He agreed. He drove all the way up from S.C., cheered for his team, as did I, but still found room for criticism.

I thought the boards were here as a forum for free expression?

All I said was Clawson has struggled to put an average to good D together. And if you don't think the Clemson game is proof, you are blind.

I didn't check but I imagine it was Clemson's highest points, yards, and efficiency this year. And they really haven't had tough competition before us.

If Lambert can get us there this year, then I think we have another shot at the title game, given all other factors stay fairly constant (i.e. no Hartman injury). This is dependent on Clemson losing 2. (We need to pull for NCSU Saturday...Clemson does not have a tough ACC schedule this year, IMHO).

If Lambert can't improve the D this year, I think a 5-7 wins season is likely.
