MBB Game 3: Utah Valley Wolverines - Tuesday 7 pm - ACCN+

But a better chance than Klintman right?
Not really -- Steve explained the ball-screen coverage problems and issues much better than I could sum it up. Basically from my view, Bandaogo was just going to go around Bradford and Marsh with really good quickness for a 7-footer. Klintman and Carr could at least stay in front of him.

Glass-half-empty is that Wake's two 7-footers couldn't handle Bandaogo; glass-half-full is that doesn't mean it'll be like that all season, and WF isn't going to see that many 7-footers with that kind of skillset. I mean, they'll see some.

Crazy that the best player on the court during an ACC game against Utah Valley was their C.

I can’t believe they didn’t call a T on Bandaogo on that dunk. He did a chin-up and kissed the rim. While it’s hilarious, how is that not a technical?
The chin up was incredible! I assumed they must have changed the rule so that is not a T anymore?! There is no possible way they could have missed it!

I think the flopping one does not count towards disqualification.
Plus he should've never been whistled for flopping. Bradford went into him pretty good. Not sure if it should've been an offensive charge, but it definitely wasn't a flop.

The flop T was probably for flailing his arms repeatedly after he hit the floor. If he didn't try to make snow angels on the court, it's either a no-call or possibly even a charge.

That’s why you defend the inbounder. What a damn throw by Cam and catch by Marsh. Obviously also a great shot by Tyree.
This. Every time.
Duke vs. UK. Grant Hill is unguarded. Laettner makes the shot. Duke wins.
Earlier that year Odom covers Hill on the baseline. Hill tries to make the pass running the baseline and is off target. Wake wins.
I was glad Forbes covered the inbounder with 0.4 left tonight.

A lot for us to learn about this team. We’ve played slightly more than one half of good basketball. Random thoughts:

  • Carr 15/14. Hard to complain about that in a game like tonight.
  • UVU was 4/31 from 3. Lots of long rebounds and they did a good job of tipping balls out.
  • we only had 11 TOs tonight. That was a half last year.
  • Not sure where our offense is going to come from out of this group
  • Great to see that Appleby is clutch

On the last play Madsen made the same mistake that Pitino made against Duke on the Lattner shot, he failed to put anyone on the baseline guarding the man passing the ball inbounds. As a result, Hildreth executed as well as Grant Hill.

Wake's final play brought back memories of Eddie Payne to Lee Foye from the ACC Tournament back in the day.

Watched the game once the replay was available last night... Good win that we were lucky to come away with. Last play was great execution.

  • I really don't understand all of the Cam criticism. He's definitely not the guy we want running the offense, but he does a lot of things well. Small sample size, but it looks like his shot has improved... Or at least he's just more comfortable being out there.
  • Bandaogo was a bad matchup for our bigs. Bradford and Marsh had no chance. Carr needs to be stronger, but I thought he did relatively well playing long stretches at the 5 last night. Can't argue with his numbers.
  • Bandaogo also killed a lot of our 2pt offense... And when we couldn't shoot it well from the outside, it got a little ugly. OK, a lot ugly.
  • Monsanto remains frustrating. He can clearly stroke it, and would be a weapon within the flow of the offense, but he's taking too many bad shots and forcing things. Before the season, the debate was whether he'd just be a deadly 3-point shooter or if he'd expand his offensive game... Right now, he is doing neither.
  • We need Jao. Offense brutal without Appleby on the floor and he can't play 40mpg. Appleby is so active on both ends that he needs a blow from time to time.
  • Defense looked pretty good (again). I know Forbes has said they are purposely packing it in a bit more and giving more open looks from 3, but if we ever run up against a team on a hot shooting night we will get buried.
  • There was zero doubt that Woodbury was going to drain that last shot to tie the game... I was just glad it wasn't a 3. That dude missed a TON of shots, but didn't hesitate down the stretch and had a couple of important baskets for UVU.
  • A few comments that Bobi looks lost at times out there... Maybe, but we play better when he's on the court, so he's doing something right. Again, small sample size, but we are better with him playing.
  • Rebounding is going to be a concern all year, especially if we have to go small a lot.
  • We have a lot of players in the rotation and Forbes does a good job of going with those that are helping us win. I'd like Monsanto to play more, but we outscore the other team with Hildreth/Bobi on the floor and outscoring the other team is the goal.

Hildreth is playing well and is a fighter and has been clutch for us. Great pass on the last play.

I will expand on DeacsATS comment about Bandaogo. He was clearly the best player on the floor last night. Our bigs all play from below the rim and Bandaogo does not...maybe the only person playing last night that could finish in the post with a dunk. He also made all of our post scoring very (and embarrassingly) difficult for our bigs...at one point i thought every shot that we put up from the post had a great potential of being blocked.

Utah Valley had more fans tonight than we did. Only 2k miles away. They are flying back tonight. Nice folks.
They had two buses pull up and drop off fans, which was impressive. They did not have more fans there last night.
