Wake @ Duke - 3:30 PM ESPN2/ACCN

Horrible loss and a disappointing season. 7-5 is fine most years, but not this year. D has regressed. Pass protection today was embarrassing, as was our offense's inability to see obvious blitzes. Whether that's on the OC or Sam to audible, I don't know.

2 drops on the last drive, plus a PI on the 4th down that you can't rely on to get called.

So everyone has injuries this time of year. I know we do on both sides of the ball

But this might have been the first Wake team capable of beating everyone on our schedule. Not saying we would or should have expected to, but for once there wasn't a single game where you went in saying we had no chance (i.e. Clemson most years). We had the ability to beat every opponent. And failed so hard. Absolutely same feeling as 2009 (Skinner senior year)

Clawson obviously a great coach. This was a mixture of absolute WTF was that moments, bad breaks, and some bad schemes/play. It is what it is and it sucks. I'm personally hoping the bowl game is Fenway so I can walk to it and freeze my ass off at 11 AM

What is this year’s motto? Mindset? I hate intentionally slowing down to run out the clock with minutes left. They actually practice it. Creates the wrong mindset.
I eye rolled when we were obviously doing this with 5 minutes to go.

Our staff is bad at clock/situational game management. Yes the D sucks. So, you can’t go conservative on O. You just can’t.

Yea it is easy as fans and we can use hindsight. But most on here bitch as it is happening and it is rare we go “Nevermind”.

Really surprising considering WFU is never going to have the athletes to always blow teams out. Being smart and composed is key.

Grobe was better at this than Clawson. Grobe was stubborn in lots of ways that ruined his end here but we won tons of close games and many we shouldn’t have. Clawson has lost tons of close games and many he shouldn’t have.

Both good coaches and pleased after attending during Caldwell, but very frustrating.
This is the best post I’ve seen that sums up our issues.

Clawson goes conservative at the worst possible moments and it bites us in the ass over and over again. If he doesn’t go conservative, he way overthinks the situation and we run dumb shit when the simple play wins the game. It’s incredibly frustrating because other than this one huge flaw of his, he’s a great fit for Wake and we are lucky to have him.

He needs to really think long and hard about how he manages games in moments like tonight or against UNC, or State or Clemson, etc. We’re a few gutless play calls away from being 9-3 and a few smarter play calls away from being 11-1.

we just lost a game we should have won and we’re favored in and in exactly the stereotypical way this years team would lose a game like this.

and to cap what was a bad season, period.

It begins with Clawson refusing to adjust our O and add creativity to the O when other teams finally began to figure us out.

Had all summer to look at that Pitt game. Started the season with absolutely NOTHING new.

On D he has improved it absolutely NONE over 9 years.

There’s something that happened to this team after the Louisville game where they just completely lost any ability to battle adversity. I think the Clemson loss being so crushing took the air out of the team, and then it was a dam waiting to break.

I love Sam and am incredibly thankful for his incredible career but this offense just doesn’t deliver with the game on the line.

Yep just shitty. It happens. Sucks it does but it does.

That said, I'll be on my deathbed cursing out the 2022 defense.

As bad as the D is, we should just keep running the offense the entire game. No slowing down. Just keep rolling. That way the D is out of the equation

I’m usually the eternal optimist but there’s no way there’s no way we’re not significantly worse next season.
