That’s a good call out as well, and likely another reason why transfer portal numbers have increased pretty significantly the past 2 seasons.

My overall point here is that I worry that Wake lacks the depth to recover from these early departures at key positions (see RB with Turner/Cooley and DE with Bothroyd). I hope I’m proven wrong and we don’t regress skill/production-wise next year and young unproven players step up (see Claiborne, Towns, etc.). But that remains to be seen.

Bothroyd was expected to leave. I’m sure the staff already had a plan there.

On your first post, you’re missing the departure of Roberts.

I’m not too bothered by the attrition so far, would have been nice to keep Cooley and Holmes, but we’re deep at RB, and not sure if Holmes would have put it together here and may have needed a change of scenery.

Looking thin at DT, but have a great track record of picking up a transfer here. Also looking thin in the secondary, but that’s been our calling card for several years. Talent’s there but no depth.
 
I’m sure most have seen rondy bothroyd in the portal, but now also dez Williams WR in there too. He had a great spring game and was set to be in the rotation in 23… that’s disappointing
 
As mentioned before, Bothroyd was expected (and the door isn't completely closed). We're loaded at WR, and I still wonder if we're making at run at Douglas from Liberty since they'll have a new coach (maybe a trade for Cooley). Clawson was pretty enamored with him (So. this year)

Oh great. So add Williams and I forgot about JJ Roberts too. So we are up to 7, now?
 
Am I the only one that sorta feels like Wake is going to be stuck in that intermediate level where we get some "average" rated 3 star guys, coach them up for a few years until they make a name for themselves, and then they take their last year or two (or more) and move to a "better" program that will get more attention.

It may not have happened all that much yet, but it kinda feels like it could get to that point....

Hopefully we can win enough to become a destination school as opposed to an intermediary...and recruit well enough to get depth for when those layover guys pass through.

If not, we risk having a good to great season and then not being able to improve upon that the next year and have to start over in a greater sense than usual when losing key players. It's tough to plan for unexpected talent/attention explosions.
