Sam Hartman

The NIL situation is so sketchy, but if he can get $1m he would be nuts to pass on it. Woffard is the exception, not the rule for guys that don't get drafted and actually get a contract as a number 2 QB. He has about $4-5m in NFL earnings. His making it in the league was pretty weird. He's probably done now that he had to play as a starter and failed. As most have said, Sam is probably best case a practice squad guy. He doesn't have the measurables for people to give him too many chances. He has a history of melting down over the last two years. Seems like his best chance to get paid for playing football is on an NIL deal at a P5 school but he's proven a lot of people wrong the last five years so who knows.
This is the part I disagree with. Hartman may never be in a better position to get drafted than he is right now. If his goal is an NFL career, I don't think pursuing that now is nuts at all.

Sam strikes me as a guy that likes to bet on himself. I could see him going somewhere to a place with a QB whisperer to try and improve his skill set and evolve his game.

It’s different for guys like Abbate or Dortch who aren’t going to get any taller.

Sam ain't getting any taller either and the NFL ride of the short QB may be coming to a close with the recent failures of Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Trey Lance, and to some degree Wolford.

I’m a fan of all Hartman has accomplished at Wake and the work ethic he possesses that allowed him to overcome the many obstacles presented. I don’t think he is an NFL qb, so any money he makes somewhere else is more than he is likely to get.

Wolford making the NFL was somewhat of a miracle- but for the AAFL of what ever it was, as well as McVey taking a shine to him, he is on Wall Street or coaching right now. And Wolford was a better athlete than Hartman, both in foot-speed and arm strength.

I wish him the best either way.

Sam did not look like an NFL QB to me this year. Particularly needs to show he can manage the lows because obviously the highs are outstanding. I think he could definitely show a lot in another yr at a top program. I think a lot of y’all are worried he might crumble under the pressure but if he wants to carve something out in the NFL he’ll have to address it on the field some time.

I could see the argument he’s a known product at this point, in which case get as much money as possible.

when you’re swimming in talent like some of these schools it isn’t unreasonable to think one guy can elevate you from dysfunctional mess to competitor

I agree with this 100%
Taking a million bucks right out of college would likely set him up very nicely for life after football. Go try that NFL dream. But invest that million and live your life.

I think he could improve his stock by having a good year at a high profile P5 (agree with rawrr's post above about things to improve on, among others). He might benefit from being coached by a new QB coach and head coach - he's probably learned everything that Claw has to offer. But there is also some risk by transferring to one of those programs. There is always a chance you wouldn't win the job (Sam understands this well after seeing what happened to Jaime). I think the bottom line is going to come down to... is Sam guaranteed to be drafted this year? If he isn't he has absolutely nothing to lose by taking the most NIL money possible and going to another school for a year.

What's the deadline for him to make a decision between portal / draft / other?

He should figure it out quickly if he wants to play in one of the senior bowls.

His dad is an orthopedic surgeon. I doubt money is an issue for him.

Hartman is our best NFL prospect at QB since the legendary Karl Sweetan.

On which thread can I find out what Sam’s opinion is on Constantine and Christianity? If he doesn’t have one, would a lack of historical knowledge on the topic push him toward a school with a strong history department?

A common misconception within academia! Most of us that study the ancient world are not actually in history departments! Instead we are in Religious Studies, Classics, and area studies departments. :)
