None of this would make a good tv drama, just sayin’.Guaranteed housing, decriminalization of all drugs, decriminalization of sex work, jobs programs, expanded health care and mental health care. Community mediators. Transformative justice training in k-12.
I agree with this generally speaking, what is the plan for violent crime?Guaranteed housing, decriminalization of all drugs, decriminalization of sex work, jobs programs, expanded health care and mental health care. Community mediators. Transformative justice training in k-12.
Start with repealing qualified immunityThe way we police doesn’t work, not even close. The consequences of not policing are also grim, so what’s the answer?
Legal drugs and sex would leave a lot less time for TV though.None of this would make a good tv drama, just sayin’.
That's not happening with teachers. There are still great teachers, just not enough of them.So what happens when ya make it so miserable socially to be a cop that no one in their right mind and thus the worst of the worst are the only ones willing to do the job?

The real issue is if all these reforms take place there are going to be hundreds of thousands of former cops with a lot of anger and few transferrable real world skills eager to create and join violent groups to continue wreaking havoc on society. What's the plan to deal with these brute squads?
police availability or response to things that affect everyday citizens (i.e. small crimes like petty theft, car wrecks/incidents and the like) are so shitty or nonexistent in basically every city i've lived in as an adult that it feels like why bother. with the amount of shootings we see around the country, in public, on a daily basis, it feels hard to argue that cops are effective at preventing large scale violent crimes -- and have a growing habit of being ineffective at preventing these situations from getting worse. which is kinda what they're there for.
feels like i'm getting a raw deal as a tax payer and i don't have anywhere near the job security if i fuck up

People commit crimes right up to the point where they know they can get away with them or the consequences are so small that it’s worth the risk. That’s obviously shortsighted because once you’re identified as a repeat criminal you’re pretty well screwed.i'm not convinced police are really a deterrent to small crimes like that. other than if there was just a cop physically present by chance. i have no research to back up this point of view, but it seems like porch cams are doing most of the work in the petty theft arena.
but i don't really think abolishing the police is that radical of an idea -- other than it upsets the status quo. i haven't been a victim of any violent crimes in my life so maybe that's because of police presence in my community, but maybe it's more attributable to other factors.
Not saying it’s correlative with policing, but he’s not wrong about teachingIt is happening with teachers. Obviously not all teachers. I could give you multiple anecdotes just affecting my kids about unstable teachers, obviously unqualified teachers, and teachers who don’t give a shit. And that’s schools in this system where teachers prefer to teach.
Don’t most cities and counties and states pay their cops a shit ton more than teachers? Not saying it’s correlative with policing, but he’s not wrong about teaching
It’s harder to get into the police academy here than it is to get hired as a teacher.Don’t most cities and counties and states pay their cops a shit ton more than teachers?
And what is the training requirement for your local sheriff's department? It’s harder to get into the police academy here than it is to get hired as a teacher.
