WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Yeah, the actual comparison here is what would have happened if Collins left after his promising freshman year instead of coming back and dominating for his sophomore year?

The answer is that Danny Manning would have been fired a whole lot sooner than he was.

eh, he obviously has a ton of potential but he was a pretty minor factor on last year's team. it's not like when we lost john collins.
Not sure why people insist on evaluating Klintman on his production from last season; the first half of the season is essentially irrelevant. BK was the only player on the roster to not spend the Summer on the team, and he had a slow start.

Klintman started the last 5 games and essentially averaged a double double. Bobi shot 37% from three. He's also just 20 years-old, 6-10 and clearly improving. There is a reason why he seems to be a consensus lottery pick in 2024. It's a big deal for any college team to lose a lottery pick a year early; for WF, when the Deacs have had one lottery pick in more than a decade, it is a huge deal

this is truth. i remember all of us saying 'why is collins not playing more?'

Maybe the best shooter in the portal, and he can play point:

This guy immediately is the best guy currently in the portal I'd imagine. He'd start at the 2 from day 1.

Gotta wonder if he's graduated yet, as a rising senior.

silver lining is that it confirms Forbes’ and staff’s eye for talent and helps the recruiting pitch going forward

I think these borderline cases are pretty interesting from a game theory perspective — not too dissimilar from a guy accepting or rejecting a lower-end contract extension in the pros

I'll be happy about that silver lining when we actually win some fucking tournament games. I want that eye for talent to translate into some fucking production. I know Forbes does too.
Yea, this. It’s pretty much the story of Wake basketball—a pretty insane record of NBA draftees that far exceeds the record of the college basketball teams they played for.

I was cool thinking about the staff’s talent ID as a silver lining last year, and I may come back around to it, but the Bobi development has me shook a bit. Just going to put out vibes that he returns.

Wonder how many times a college team has had 1st round picks in consecutive seasons, and not made the NCAAT in either.
Not to mention the league leader in points (close enough) and assists each season.

I'd be good with Hunter Sallis. Former 5 star. Was pretty efficient in a limited role on an elite 8 team. Good length. Gets steals. Needs to improve his 3 pt shot but he didn't shoot many.

Seems like the kind of kid who Forbes could mold into a stud.

Weird that he didn’t mention the two teams that are flying out to see him.
