WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Sucks, he was so toolsy he would've been fun to watch develop. Was hoping he would be a rangy Josh Howard type. Margin for error for next year is a little tighter, but it sounds like Damari is rehabbing pretty fast and I'm pumped about the dudes we have coming in.

As a reminder Forbes "only" needs to replace last year's bobi production and not next year's assumed improvement.

It's a bummer but I expected him not returning the moment he announced. Better for my mental health.

I wish Bobi nothing but the best. I agree he probably received assurances that he is already a 1st round pick, and going to the combine would potentially be more harmful than helpful to his stock. If any of us were in his shoes, would we decide any differently (chance to play in the NBA and make millions even if it doesn't work out as expected)? I'm guessing most would not.

Who are the best large athletic wings left in the portal? I assume we will be contacting them ASAP.

We need to get Sallis to give his Omaha bro a call. From down the road, grad transfer. We haven't been listed.

sure, I've made that point, but last year's team had unsatisfying results

we need improvement somewhere. Doubt we get it from the PG position

Sort of. We still didn’t make the tournament last year and lost by far our best player. Bobi returning and improving was viewed by many as a key piece to taking that next step.

We have a reasonably solid lineup as long as Damari is back 100%. Assume Miller, Hildreth, Monsanto, Carr and one of Marsh/Reid start. Feels like Sallis could play a bunch of minutes across the 2 and 3. Still doesn’t leave us with a ton of proven depth and ultimately looks a lot like our team last year on paper.

I'm not used to doing this much cross-scouting between Campbell and WF. Jay Pal has defensive skills and that's how he showed up most often. He did have some scoring games, obviously, but made more of a statement on the defensive side.

I appreciate this and the Dell'Orso run down! Though I guess Dell'Orso withdrew from the portal.

Looks like Pal was at San Diego St. last week.

And doing that leaves Wake right where they were last season, minus production of runner-up ACC player of the year. Bobi's assumed productivity improvement in 2023 - 2024 was a part of the elevation of Wake beyond the 2023 finish.

It was reasonable to expect a guy who finally got minutes and played well at the end of 23 to carry approximately that level of production into tje next sesson.

yeah, i had myself feeling like we could be a top 3 ACC team next year. after this information, i fear we fall back to the upper middle again.

That's a reasonable expectation shared by nba scouts. That's the feedback he's getting. It's a bummer for sure for Forbes/Wake.

The overall talent and depth continues to improve. Losing out on the possibility of his talent on the court leaves a question mark about who(m) fills that leadership role. Sounds like we have a real shot at improved defense. That in itself could be game changing.

We'll see.

On the bright side, this makes minutes projections a lot easier because ~30 minutes just got freed up (and I was about 50 minutes over last time).
