New Concessions Partner

Alright so proof of the pudding is doing the tennis tournament over at Wake right now. They are set up differently where you go grab what you want, food/drink and then take it to a register to pay. You don't wait in line to order. Thats all fine, seen it done at many games and usually it works well.

However. The concession food they are selling is by far and away the worst I've seen at a sporting event in years. I'm talking a little league game has better quality. The burger was legitimately disgusting and looked the best of anything. I didn't have a hot dog and those are prob fine they are hard to mess up. The burger was horrendous, quality and taste was bad. The chicken fingers looked worse than what you'd see at an elementary school. Just heat lamp crap. The fries sucked. I couldn't be more disappointed with what I saw. And they may have more stuff but if this is what they're mostly serving at football and basketball my god it's absolute crap.
Agreed. I hope they have a lot more, and higher quality, options for football. If you're at the tennis tournament, go to the Zekos food truck. Hopefully they'll have food truck options at football, like they have the last several years.

I'll also add that it seems they are "cash-only." That's fine in many circumstances, but at sporting events parents often send their kids with some cash to get what they want, which seems like it may no longer be an option for football.

Cash-only concessions for sporting events? Wake should be going cashless.

I definitely used card for all my concessions with proof of the pudding. Zekos I can't speak for, the line was too long or I would've eaten there also.

Not sure if it was like this all season but Couch had a great selection of local beer during the Supers. Would love to see that same selection during football. I also felt like it was cheaper...
It was kinda screwy.

Early on (Feb/Mar), they kept a really good selection of local beers (Wiseman, Fiddlin' Fish, Incendiary) in the 'All-American Club'.

Since I was going to most of the games, I didn't mind paying for the access to that. It was $150 on opening day.

I figured I was paying for the ability to purchase premium drinks (as advertised) and, to not deal with the lines later in the season.

... the third game of the season, they drop the season-pass price to $75. I thought that it was pretty typical-WFU to tax the early adopters, but oh well.

the 2nd or 3rd weekend of the season, they started putting the crafts/IPAs at the main concession stand. Cool.

... I didn't really blow up about the situation until our first mid-week game, when I was told the All-American Club couldn't honor the $5 Deacon Brew special.

What they meant by 'enhanced concessions' is that you have to purchase the right to pay more for fewer (and, shittier!) options.

I went to the Wake-Miami Friday game and they were out of Deacon Brews in the second inning when I went to grab another couple. The second inning!

There is a Don Julio pop-up at tennis.

Shitty food is one strategy to keep the lines short I guess.

Yeah the food at the tennis tournament has been the worst food I’ve ever seen at a sporting event in my life. Prisoners in Guantanamo are surely eating better than what they have here.
It truly is astonishing how bad it is. Lack of options etc. They need like 5 food trucks every day not 1.

Even if you get the VIP tickets diamondback does the food in there and they essentially try to pick the worst thing they could serve every day.

Can’t believe they still have the Orbit Sweep stand. How about a Slow Mesh pressed sandwiches stand?

Did anyone try the concessions last night? The couple times I saw the lines, they seemed to be moving at a fairly decent pace.

Lines moved and the grab and go for drinks is good.

The food is awful. Son had chicken and waffles and I had the shoestring fries. It was all pretty bad. Son ate 1/2 a chicken tender and 2/4 of the waffle pieces. I are the fries, but only as a disappointing conduit for ketchup and Texas Pete.

We’re in section 1 and only hit “Arnie’s Corner” right outside the section. Do other locations have other options?

We used to have a local wings/chicken and waffles place run that stand and their wings were phenomenal.

What's the advantage of having one concessions partner vs. several deals with local caterers/restaurants?

I went to one that had grab and go hot dogs. I got one, it was a B- hot dog. And the deacon brew was ten freaking dollars.
