Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Again, the UNC board of trustees have basically no hard authority, especially over stuff like this. They are a glorified advisory board. They don't actually have a say.

Now, if the board of governors or the NCGA came out with a statement against expansion then I'd be concerned since they actually could do something, like neuter the president or push for his removal if they're not happy with the move.

The board of governors might agree with the trustees and UNC might still vote no, but it'll have almost nothing to do with what the board of trustees thinks.

Yeah, that email reads like someone bitching that they are not going to get their way. Hopefully means UNC flipped. Still surprised even the BOT wouldn’t want this for UNC. I think they just believe they can hold out a little longer given the GOR and strike an even better deal down the road. I cannot believe UNC ever wants to leave the ACC or for the ACC to disband. They would land on their feet financially, but being the 6th most important brand in a football dominated conference cannot be appealing to the Heels even if there is more TV money.

They must have had the meeting at 3:30 am west coast time…. Stanford and cal admins going to have to get used to getting up ass crack early to attend meetings with their east coast colleagues

I think a lot of people (media members especially), are missing the forest through the trees on this. It's not about the additional revenue as much as it is about getting too big to fail when it eventually becomes 2-3 massive conferences. This helps protect the ACC and Wake immensely.

Yep. ACC looking at strength in numbers.

We will see....
