Israel Attacked and its Response

This is where I’m at - I don’t think you have to deny the political agency of Gazans by saying that Hamas doesn’t really represent them. This is a nation of millions of people who are denied legitimate political representation. What’s left? They are a desperate people, all of their moderate political representation has been subverted, their non-violent acts of protest met with violence. This is not an approval of terrorism, it’s an acknowledgment of its inevitability and undeniability under the circumstances.

**What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?**

I worked in the World Trade Center, and was completely against the war. I think it’s the brutal and intimate nature of this Hamas violence that’s gotten me worked up.
I don’t know. After the Iraq debacle I’m not so cynical to believe the majority of Americans are so gullible.

Ah well nevertheless

Biden statement just not doing it for me. That’s a no dawg.

“Israel has stood as the guarantor of security in the Middle East for 75 years”

I mean lol have they??? They literally haven’t

Probably not the thread for this, but I think Biden will find that an outdated approach to Israel and Palestine will lose more support than it gains.

Yeah. Agreed. He’s playing it safe and it’s not where the Democrat base is

Hard to see where the Dem base is and how to thread the needle

What few Dem leaders have been courageous to voice any kind of support for Palestine are facing threats and derision.

The rest of the squad, Bernie, may as well have had their press statements written by the Israeli press office

Really not a fan of Biden's speech on this. Essentially gave Israel cover to do whatever they want in Gaza.
Right. It sets up for Biden to take the heat domestically for what comes next.

This is definitely fair. This is gonna be a big progressive centrist split
