2pm on the C-Dub vs. Syracuse

Ok - Cut the check to pay his and the staff’s buyouts with enough left over to bring in a new HC and staff at current market rates
Not my job kiddo. Never said he should be fired either. Just said no other school would be ok with that record.

Clawson earned the right to have a season like this.
True all that. We are talking Wake Forest football where we have never made seven bowl games in a row. We gave Jim Grobe five losing seasons in a row before firing him after his 06-07-08 run.

I still think we should have gone after every single OL and DL player at Liberty when their coach left for Auburn.

You would
Ok. You didn’t think they were dominant when we played them?

ETA: point being, there are good players out there. I’m all for being loyal, but we have a lot of needs and hopefully we can use the portal to our advantage in football for once.

That…literally has nothing to do with the discussion.
The fact that the discussion is something other than the defense getting bent over again versus a conference opponent struggling on offense is exactly the issue

Someone should ask Clawson which part of the game he felt like Griffis brought more to the table than Kern:

Passing: No
Running/speed: No
Pocket presence: No
Arm strength: No

I’m not sure there is much left. That decision cost the team a respectable season. I don’t disagree that Clawson has earned a bad season. However, the poor decision making around the QB position was inexcusable and indefensible and should not be tolerated. I hope Currie puts a lot of pressure on him to explain and takes steps to ensure it does not happen again

That statement holds true for this year…when we played them, we were damn good and they manhandled us in the trenches.
When have we ever been “damn good” in the trenches? We’ve had good players at those positions. Arguably this season we were better at DL

Focus now needs to be retaining some key guys for next year. Very concerned we are going to lose Davis, Pointer, Mustapha and possibly one more on defense and Banks, Key, Claiborne and one or two more on offense. Also wouldn’t be surprised if Kern transferred for guaranteed playing time.

ETA: The play calling on offense in the 4th quarter and the decision to go for two were some of the worst I’ve seen in Clawson’s tenure. Disastrous season for so many different reasons.
How many of these guys may we lose by them declaring for the draft? I’ve always thought there’s a decent chance Mustapha may go to the league after this season.

probably a better discussion for later, but the evidence supports going for 2 in that situation, the same way you should go for 2 when a td cuts the lead to 8

the same way going for it on 4th down past midfield has become normalized, more evidence-based 2 point tries will progressively become the norm and in the next ten years imo.

(i think it’s counterintuitive because our brains overrate getting to overtime)

I don’t know why you’re missing the actual point I was making - we have a lot of needs and if a team like Liberty can push us around when we were arguably as good as we have ever been, it’s likely there are players out there that we would want on our team (and they’re probably at lower-tier programs and would jump to be at Wake). Roberts is a good example of this. He’s our best LB in a long time and he came from a FCS program. Same thing with Kobie Turner. All I’m suggesting is we need to turn it up a notch recruiting in the portal this offseason, because we are almost certainly going to lose some key players. I’d take Liberty’s OL from last year over our OL, wouldn’t you?
