2023 Carolina Panthers thread - HOF Julius Peppers

wonder if it was done with the intention of no way hiring the interim so just throw out someone to the wolves, rather than one of the coordinators pulling off a Wilks and Tepper still has no intention of hiring them
I just wonder how this season would have played out if Wilks had been given a chance... Such an embarrassing owner. When he bought the team, his bravado gave me pause. I was concerned we were going to be the new browns. I'm starting to think those old browns teams were better...

Just talked to him. Learned some new things. Tepper is embarrassed about how basically nothing he has done as owner has worked out or been the smart move, except maybe the CMC trade. He's extremely upset and upset with himself for thinking he could do it without highly experienced football guys making the decisions. Has learned his lessons. Said his wife wanted them to draft CJ Stroud and that has caused some finger pointing. Was extremely pissed that Levis outperformed Bryce yesterday. Tepper is very upset that they traded DJ Moore and picks and got where they are now. Seems convinced that it wasn't the right move although he thinks Bryce will be a good QB but not one you bet your franchise on by trading the farm. He definitely is eating crow and says he won't make these same mistakes again.

Holy shit this is gold

You mean you weren't inspired by the brass nuts on his desk? But they're so symbolic!

Are you telling me that rich people aren't inherently smarter and able to do anything better than everyone else? I'm not sure what to do with this information.

The motherfucker just needs to start outright poaching football personnel from other teams by paying them to break their current contracts. Like say hey John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan, how does $100 mil a piece sound?

Absolutely meaningless unless Fitt quickly follows. This roster is built to win 4-5 games with competent coaching. If Fitt is allowed to do more subtraction by addition with more useless players through the draft and free agency, the team will need only continue to get worse.
This. This roster is tied with Zona's for worst in the league. I continue to believe Young would be a solid QB with a better OL and WRs. You put Stroud with this offense, and it'd be no better. Step 1 is firing Fit and hiring the head of college scouting from a good team. If you don't do that, then Tepper has not learned from his mistakes. You have to build through the draft, and Fit/Rhule drafts have sucked. And trade back, not up, so you can get more picks. You need more NFL caliber players. And Guitar, I'll believe Tepper has learned his lesson when he starts doing things the right way. And the right way would have been firing Fit 1st.

I'm #YoungWaitandSee, but whether or not a QB can be successful with a great roster feels like a poor metric for evaluation.

i'm not saying bryce is a bust

but there is little evidence (yet) that he's good

even trevor lawrence every now and then would have a "holy shit" type throw that would remind you why he was the #1 pick. it's progress if bryce completes the ball more than 10 yards.

This makes too much sense to do, so no chance that Tepper does it.

Would be a hell of an awakening though for Johnson to go from the DET OL to the CAR OL
Find a LT, move Icky to guard, and I think the OL is going to be much improved.

Disagree. There were a number of throws yesterday where he was running for his life or about to be hit and put the ball on the money. Some of them, the receiver wasn't even open at all, but his placement was perfect.

In the CMC trade we got:
  • 1 of the 4 picks sent along with DJ Moore to get Bryce Young
  • #93 and #132 in 2023 that ended up getting packaged together to jump to #80 to get DJ Johnson
  • A 2024 5th
That trade looks a lot better if Bryce was having the year we expected and if our idiot GM didn't do what he did with the 3rd and 4th rounders
