ESPN College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon (NWT, unfortunately)

Kansas is good, I can tell they are going to do some damage in the Big 12. Kentucky is going to make a lot of good teams look bad this year. Besides Baylor, who is going to control Robinson and Withy in the paint this year? When Kansas is able to get their post game going it will open up the game for their shooters.

They may fair well in Big 12 because there really isn't too many good teams in that conference. Baylor is probably the best team in that conference. Personally, I don't think Kansas will be sweet 16 team.

Nice acting, Terrance. Did he catch a stray bullet from Oswald or something?

Man, Kentucky is going to be fun to hate.

UNC could be in trouble if they try to get into track meet with UK at Rupp. I think UNC is better team, but don't think they beat them in Rupp.

Carolina has the speed to run with UK, and the length to defend them in the post. The only advantage I can see that UK has over UNC is three point shooting.

Neither team is great three point shooting team, so it's hard to call that advantage for either team. I just think UNC has more experience and skill in the half court at this juncture of season and it would be mistake for them to try to run with UK in their building. I know that's their game, but UK can match them in speed and length. That's the game I'm most looking forward to in regular season as a college basketball fan.

On Friday night UCLA opened the season by losing to Loyola Marymount by 11 at home. Tonight UCLA lost by 20 to Middle Tennessee at home. Here is a picture from the game, notice anything?

By the way, they were preseason top 20 in both polls.

Because pollsters are dumb and do zero research. Kansas has 8 recruited scholarship players on this team. They lost 4 starters from last year. They're playing a former walk-on and a transfer from Lamar. 2 of their starters had previously only played scrub minutes.

Funny I remember the two of us trying to make this case before the season and getting shouted down because of all the 4 star and 5 star rated recruits they have.

If Kentucky had made free throws and not fouled Tyshawn Taylor every time he got the ball, this would have been a rout.

I think it's fair to say this team is as low on talent as was imagined. They're gonna have to play well in the halfcourt to win, and keep Robinson out of foul trouble which isn't going to be easy.

Did Self just say I'm going big or going home recruiting-wise and decide if he doesn't get his guys that he'll pocket the scholarships for next year?

When UK and UNC play, who guards Barnes? Surely they'd like to put Jones on him, but who would guard Henson in that case? Assuming Davis stays on Zeller

Jones, at 6'9, 250 is probably too slow to guard Barnes. More likely is that Michael Gilchrist (6'7, 232 SF) and Darius Miller (6'8 235 SF) would defend him as they are quicker defenders and are long enough to play the 4 spot.

Not so sure they would want to put Jones on him. They might choose to put him on Henson, figuring Jones won't have to do quite as much on defense there.

I think I'd probably start with Gilchrist on Barnes and see how that goes. Miller off the bench is a strong perimeter defender as well and is a veteran.

Gilchrist - Barnes
Davis - Zeller
Jones - Henson

is what I'm thinking I'd do to start.

I think that's pretty spot on with what I anticipate Cal will do.

Yeah, at least they can put up points against Alcorn St!

If they had played like they did tonight they would have scored more against KSU and ORU as well. Much more aggressive and assertive, relentless pursuing the ball. Got to the line a lot, in the paint a lot.

Walk-on Paul Williamson got 19 minutes, much more than several other newcomers. Huggins doing just what I said, playing the guys that look like they want to give an effort. #2 in minutes was a guard that got 10 defensive rebounds.

If they'd shot FTs better they'd have had 105 or so. 20-35...ugh.

Work in progress.

There surely has to be a WVU message board that you could gloat about your mediocre team right?

Just following up on a previous statement.

LOL at a Temple fan talking about mediocrity. How's not winning the MAC East again taste, bitch? And this was the year to get Ohio too...not gonna be as easy next year. Losing Brazill and Keller (you know, the guy that turned Bernie Pierce into a bloody mess) will be tough but there's still a lot coming back.

Maybe if you outspend everyone by even more you'll win the division someday.
