Think Roberson had been at Wake 5 years and graduated. Sure he could have come back for a Covid 6th. But probably felt time to move on and try the next phase with the NFL even if hasn’t worked out for him.

Grimes to state makes it seem like he was leaving more because of Higgins stepping down than the QB situation. Our QB situation is way better than State’s right now.
Our QB situation is better than States? I have a hard time believing it will be come August. Doeren has been killing the quarterback transfer game for a long time.

Pro, PT transfer because of that pro, pro
They left the opportunity to play with great qbs for minimal pro prospects or to chase playing time. Whether its the portal or the pros, it happens in general and it has happened at wake.

Dortch, Tabari, Roberson all beg to differ

Add Surratt and A.T. Perry to the list.

Only 1 transferred

An honest evaluation of this situation would seem to require recognition of the fact that transfers had to sit out a year until spring of 2021 and NIL wasn't a thing until July 2021.

I think one way to tamp down some transferring would be to at least say you can’t transfer in conference unless you’re a grad transfer.

The no transfer in conference rule made sense when conferences were regional and smaller. Now conferences are cross-country and massive. I have a problem telling a player he can't transfer to 16 of the 67 other P4 schools.

That’s fair. It’s certainly not fair to student-athletes but maybe it would keep some of them from actually ruining their futures by entering the transfer portal and not finding a landing spot.

I don’t understand any of the logic. Let the kid go wherever they want as many times as they want.
But they don’t go where they want. Most of them end up without a home. The best thing for a lot of the kids in the transfer portal is to simply stay where they are and get a degree.

A lot of those players aren’t wanted by their coach. I wouldn’t be surprised if the number of transfers who don’t find a home is close to the number of players who quit before transferring became easier.

Perhaps. At least at a lot of places they were able to stay on scholarship.

I have no problem if they enter into a true contract. If a school guarantees 4 yr scholarship then you can’t transfer. But as long as the school can pull the scholly, the kid should be able to transfer as many times as they want.

That’s a good rule. Let’s do that.

If Clawson starts Kern all year (and I guess he doesn't get hurt) do we still have Key/Banks? It must be asked.
It would certainly increase the odds. Clawson's asshole blaming of the receivers sure didn't help. In fact, I predicted after he said it we'd see major exits at the receiver position.

The way Clawson handled the QB situation was a fireable offense. His judgement and decision making with Griffis was inexplicable and unacceptable. What we are seeing now is the fallout from Clawson’s mishandling of the QB. Clawson’s performance over his time at WF warrants giving him an opportunity to fix the mess he created and I am hopeful he will be successful. However, I hope Currie has held him accountable and put him on a short leash. We can not afford the mismanagement that we saw in 2023 again by Clawson.

the guy that recruited Grimes isn’t his position coach anymore, we went 4-8, he gave the new coach a year and it didn’t work out, he was a big time recruit with tons of options, he doesn’t have a QB to throw him the ball….did we really think he’d stick around?
