WF kept:

The best QB on the roster (which is kind of a "tallest midget" situation, but most were happy he stayed): Kern
Best OL with remaining eligibility: Gordon and Pettitbon
Best RB: Claiborne
Best Defensive player: Jasheen Davis
Best DT: Kevin Pointer

The receiver room was split: Morin, Greene (along with a lot young guys) stayed; Banks, Williams and Grimes left

Unless you have the time to survey every Power V roster for the quality of losses, hard to say how WF did in the high-profile transfer department, but anecdotally, it seems like WF's losses were in line or better than most schools. In this day and age, players transfer.
Carney should be on that list

Not something I would know regularly. Most of the time, I are looped in after the fact.

RTQ isn't legally able to offer any prospective student-athlete until they're officially enrolled on campus.
Pretty sure this is being violated 24/7 by countless institutions. There are no police.

Aren't top recruits now charging for on-campus visits? If so, the "rules" are already violated before stepping on campus.

You can't legally offer until they are enrolled...but can't you discuss the broad outlines of what an offer would look like if by chance said prospect were to decide to enroll?

Are we even offering P5 transfers?
Any P5 transfer that ends up at Wake is likely to be someone that was disappointing at their last school. Most of the studs that are leaving P5 schools are looking to go to CFP contenders. So I'd almost rather have a star player from a G5 school that has shown he can play.

I mean, most of Wake's best recent incoming transfers have come from lower levels of football: Mustapha, Fox, Turner, Pointer, etc.

So you'd have said no to Kyle McCord and 2 former 4/5 star UGA WRs?

It's hard not to be bummed when programs like GT & Cuse are getting guys like King and McCord and Wake gets a guy like Bachmeier.

And Indiana is getting plenty of guys that played significant time at P5 programs.

The problem is that we aren’t even getting star G5 players for next year.

“disappointing” isn’t a fair assessment - there is plenty of backup talent nationwide that is more than capable of starting and flourishing for us.

No, I wouldn’t say no. But those types of recruits are much more so the exception than the norm across the board.

I mean we just pulled a highly regarded WR transfer prospect from Tennessee last season and he could barely get on the field for us. This isn’t an exact science that P5 transfers are better

And one of them is a guy that a bunch of you guys complained about getting playing time all last season at Wake (Ellison). Should Indiana be excited about getting a guy that a bunch of Wake fans regularly complained about just because he was a P5 starter?

All transfer aren't built the same. Yes, the Cam Ward's are not the majority of the guys in the portal, but that doesn't mean a guy like Brock Vandagriff or Aidan Chiles are letdowns. 2 of the 4 QBs in this year's college playoffs are P5 transfers (3 of 5 with FSU). Merrill was a decent recruit, but only 13 catches before coming to Wake. I am also not ready to write him off yet, as he was dealing with injuries a bunch of last season.

I think a lot of the fanbase is upset though that teams we need to be competing with appear to be doing a better job of luring talent via the portal than Wake is. We have two examples of QBs who preferred playing in Big 10 offenses rather than playing here, and that does not bode well in regards to our ability to sell the program. We are probably never going get players to come to Wake over schools like LSU or USC or the like, but we need to be able to beat the Minnesota's and Indiania's of the world if we are going to stay competitive.

Here is another one that confuses me. Wake has offered Mateen Ibirogba a sophomore DE out of Georgetown, who has played two seasons of college football. According to everything we have heard, this is the exact type of player that we would not be able to go after because of credits. He started college after Covid, so he only has 4 years of eligibility, and he played more than 4 games in his freshmen and sophomore seasons, so he only has two seasons of eligibility left.
