2023-24 Wake Forest Basketball Season - 21-14 (11-9) - KP#29 / NET#43

I’m kinda shocked that it’s never happened before. You’d think there would regularly be games between teams both rated in the 60s, 70s or 80s where it could very reasonably happen.

That’s a small group of teams who’d have to play each other and both get a specific score.

Agreed, but there’s thousands of games each year. And the type of matchup needed should be a regular matchup considering that KP rank #60-80 are fairly often P5 teams that play each other in conference.

I believe him when he says this is the first time, but to not have happened in the past 20+ years surprises me.

60-80 is only 21 teams. Even if all 21 are major conference teams playing conference schedules, that’s 3-4 teams per major conference. So that’s maybe 2-3 matchups per conference per season.

Is there any indication that Monsanto is coming back anytime soon, or even this season at this point?

who knows... we heard December, then late December, Coach McKie on the coach's show last week said if not VT game then early January. I think it's unrealistic to expect much out of him when he does come back

If we can get a run going, ramp him up get him ready for March. When we do our damage!!!

I don't know. He's a shooter. I guarantee that timing and touch are going to come back fast for him. At a minimum, he'll be able to launch 3s. The rest of the game requiring movement and running may take a while to come back.

We saw him come back from injury in 2022. He didn't break 20 minutes until his 9th game. He only had one game with more than 23 minutes. He had good games and not as good games as streaky shooters do.

I think he'll play 10-15 minutes out of the gate off the bench, taking a few minutes each from Boopie, Cam, and Sallis. I doubt he'll play with PFred in this stretch unless it's at the 4 so Carr can get a breather.

Right now, UGA is projected to go 7-11 in the SEC and LSU 6-12. Among other things, it would help if either of those teams would pick it up a bit.

LSU looked terrible against us and still won. UGA had some pieces, but just didn’t seem like a good team all around. We really needed to get at least 1 of those, and should have gotten both.

it's just so annoying we had those losses without at least Reid. Monsanto, fine, since he's recovering from an injury. but NCAA fuckery should've been dealt with by the time the season started.

The NCAA is just pure crap for so many reasons.

It was mostly UGA guards that gave us issues in that game, so while Reid would have made a difference I'm not necessarily confident enough to say that the result would have flipped.

LSU's starting C scored 23, starting PF scored 12, and LSU grabbed 18 offensive rebounds in a game that Wake lost in OT. So I feel damn near certain that Wake wins that game with Reid available. This is the one that's really going to sting in a few months, because I think LSU is going to get killed in SEC play.

It will be prime fuckery when the committee uses those losses to justify keeping Wake out of the tournament.

Wake and other teams whose waivers were delayed should go ahead and get their lawyers working on the lawsuits they should file if their teams get left out of the tourney based on losses suffered without players waiting for waivers.

It will, but we still shouldn't have lost both of those, even without Reid. However, it's completely ridiculous to put that much weight on games that occurred before the calendar even turned December. Honestly, November and most of December is almost basketball exhibition season anyway. You think they'd hold those kind of games against Duke or UNC if they were peaking starting in January?

Yes. Among the reasons pre-season #1 UNC didn't get an NCAA bid last year was because they lost key OOC games early. Absolutely, think Duke's seed will be impacted by their OOC losses this year.
