Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

I know the source isn’t legit. That’s why I commented on that. It still makes me nervous to see because who knows what is actually going on.
you didn’t know what was going on before that tweet. Why does it make you more nervous now? Nothing has changed

Seems like another version of the same rumors we’ve been hearing since USC and UCLA left the PAC-12.

Dude, you keep questioning why people are reacting to these social media posts. Yet the ACC continues to edge closer and closer to destruction (even if this particular post is bullshit, it wouldn't have been posted if not for all the other news around the precarious situation of the ACC). At what point, if ever, will you conclude there's something very risky afoot and maybe we should be very worried? I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm genuinely curious. If there's a reason, other than hope, to believe the ACC is not in grave danger, I'd love to understand it.

I see a lot of traction around the pending implosion of the ACC. Some of it is clearly real (FSU lawsuit); some of it is less reliable (that tweet). But very little of it looks good for the future of the ACC.

I don't know whether any other schools will join this lawsuit or not. But I know it's not a huge leap of logic to wonder if they will.

How about react to stuff that actually happens.

There are a lot of bullshit artists trying to gain clicks and clout based on vibes. whatever your reaction to them is way more about your state of mind than some grand theory about what the future is going to bring.

Don't worry guys, BeachBumDeac is notorious for being judgmental of how others live their lives and what they prioritize or focus on.

But I'm with you guys on being worried about what might happen. It won't happen now, but it will happen at some point.

I think the FBS will eventually settle with some sort of split grouping of 48-64 teams and the rest will form a lower league, ending with the "Premier" league, then FBS, then FCS. It'll be 4-8 groups or conferences of the biggest schools. They'll compete for something like a 16 team playoff and take the largest bowl games/names with them. The lower league will then be full of the Duke's Mayo, Fred's Tool & Tire, and Jimbo's Fish Fry bowls, etc.

I think we will more than likely NOT be a part of the premier league, unless someone brings us along as part of their contract (unlikely) but unlike others, I'm not wishing for that or hoping for that just so we can hang some banners or claim some trophies against Cincinnati, Baylor, Rutgers and the like.

However, I don't think it settles to that until 2030 or later. Once the big moves have completed and teams get used to who they are playing and how they match up.

I also don't think that just because it is inevitable, that we should just give up.

I’m still hoping that our GOR outlasts these crazy TV contracts and the next round is ridiculously smaller. That’s the one big hope.

It would be interesting if the TV contracts that get negotiated in the 2030 -- 2033 time frame look a lot like the current ACC contract in dollar value.

If FSU leaves the ACC, I believe the B1G will invite them to join them. They will benefit from the media rights that the Florida market offers. I suspect they will then make a move for Clemson, UNC and UVA, all for the purpose of securing media rights in those states. That would provide the B1G media rights from NYC to Miami and provide an east coast presence that dwarfs the SEC.

I doubt Wake Forest will be invited to join the football powers in a premier division. I suspect that many of the current ACC schools will be in a similar position. I would expect those schools to remain together as a conference. Who knows? Maybe a conference of Boston College, Syracuse, Pittsbugh, VPI, NCSU, Duke, WFU, Georgia Tech, California, Stanford, Notre Dame and SMU could happen. Add in Vanderbilt and Northwestern and the mythical Magnolia League could become reality.

ND will almost assuredly be in whatever Premier type division that forms. Otherwise, you could be spot on.

We aren’t entirely sure what the NC and VA legislatures would do. They may make UNC and UVA take State and VT. If so, adding 4 teams may not make financial sense.
