CAN'T WAIT TO RUN DOWN TO THE PUBLIC LIBRARY AND CHECK OUT SOME OF THESE BOOKS Y'ALL ARE TALKING ABOUT (he said like it's 1971) !!!!

I'll reserve it if I have too. Maybe I'll peruse some 78 RPM vinyl while I'm there.
Oh definitely read ACOTAR, you’ll love it.

Fourth wing is just the school from Harry Potter mixed with the Dragons from GOT, bloody brilliant to throw those two things together.

i mean feel free to be an owg if you want but it's pretty clear you're the only person who holds this stupid ass view of public libraries. i'm sorry, biff.

another low key benefit of public library membership are media subscriptions. kanopy, for example, is awesome.
For the price of that Library that he quoted you could buy a kindle and subscription for every person living in the greater Charlotte Metro area, so he's not exactly wrong. Nostalgia doe.

I read a ton of books growing up and spent a lot of time after school in our town's library. It was an awesome place and all the librarians there were super nice to me. I still drive past it when I visit my family sometimes.

I still love to read but definitely don't do it as much as I should. I usually read on my Kindle but don't mind hard copies either. I refuse to listen to audiobooks because I want to be able to go back and reread certain parts and I definitely think I would lose a lot by listening only.

Has anyone finished the Three Body Problem trilogy? I enjoyed the first book and need to get started on the second, especially now since it's coming to Netflix in March.

nostalgia, but also it's an inherently good thing for society to have public, communal spaces where people can congregate. the fact that there are books there, as others have noted, is almost not really the point?

the other group we haven't discussed is older folks, for whom libraries can be vital resources to stay connected to each other and the world

Channel surfing on the radio on the drive to Georgia and heard one of my all-time favorite guilty pleasure songs: "We Built This City" by Starship. So CT, share your guilty pleasure songs with us!
Tainted Love.

Not sure I'd really call it a guilty pleasure, though - no guilt about this love.

I have a couple and once they came on back-to-back when I was driving in the car with my daughter. She did not expect her old man to match her word for word singing Unwritten followed by Call Me Maybe.

my library in my small town growing up was great. The library in DTLA where my wife makes me go with her because she doesn't feel safe being there by herself.... not so great.

For those on instagram, one of the most beautiful/heartwarming accounts to follow is mychal3ts - he's a librarian and does a ton to talk about and promote benefits of libraries (beyond just books).
Mychal is awesome. He got a lot of hate on Twitter recently to which he responded w a video that just radiates positivity. 👑

probably should be on the BRO thread, but it's good to be Jason Sudekis

Venice branch is solid imo

Culver City too

Our family has used our public library for books, games, movies, as a babysitter, as a hangout place, to 3D print, to attend different workshops and classes, and tons of other things. It's an amazing, indispensable place for the community.

You can 3D print at the library???
