MBB Game 19: @ UNC - Monday 7pm - ESPN

Nightmare second half. Carolina is really good and I really hate em. Hopefully we can get a win against Pitt. Tonight sucks but frankly the loss last week at State is the one that stings regarding NCAA hopes. I hate we played that poorly on national tv but it is what it is. We are going to have to probably win at least once against Duke.
And @FSU.

Their guards played out of their minds. They are so quick to the rim. Right now they are playing the best basketball in college. Just have to pick up the pieces and win the games we are supposed to .
We didn’t win the games we were supposed to. That’s why we were desperate for this one. I admire the “just move on” people but what are you moving on to?

Cam does look hurt and his performance level has clearly dropped. Maybe that should be a hint to cut his minutes a bit or have him play more of a distributor role. Instead he spent the first 8 minutes of the second half trying to drive to the basket and throwing up wild step backs every time he touched the ball. It’s nonsensical and he never gets pulled for doing dumb shit.

yes, but also from a personnel standpoint the biggest gap on this squad is lack of playmaking. nobody on the team naturally sees the floor well and don’t really create well for others.

so basically we try to run complicated sets but if those don’t result in an open shot, it’s guys trying to score 1:1 in a good matchup, which is fine, but there’s not much crisp passing that gets the defense off guard. which is mostly just a player skill issue.

when we had appelby, alondes (or even laravia), they would get the ball to the right place when they got the ball in an advantageous situation.

(pfred is actually the one guy who i feel like does see the floor well)

We had 3 assists today. 3! For a whole game!

Ituka cannot be worse than Boopie right now. His handle is laughable, shot selection bad and he can’t hit the broad side of a barn. And is a non factor on d. Maybe it’s just rust from not playing for the past year as someone else mentioned. But he is killing us. Nothing wrong with limiting his minutes until he heals or takes a deep breath or whatever he needs.

Not sure how to link to an insta reel, but if this works, I think it’s the commercial. Let’s just say we didn’t miss much… (I like the hash tag though)

yeah, Alondes was killer with the cross court passes in the half court

really opened things up for those offenses that otherwise had less offensive skill

yeah, and alondes was a bit of an outlier but i would argue all of our starters are below average playmakers and make up for it by being good individual scorers once they get into the paint (which is great until you play a strong defensive team like we did)

usually you expect your guards to be strong there, but sallis, boopie and hildreth all are pretty laser focused on scoring when they get into the paint, and our passes are rarely “value-add” / connective but rather resets back to the perimeter once the scoring attempt has stalled. and even then, hildreth (reverse pivot, up and under, dipsy doo) and boopie (pump fake and foul merchant) often opt for their backup moves.

We lost on the road in conference to Carolina , who is undefeated. NC State who is 5-2 , and got blown out by UNC and FSU who is now 5 - 2 also. The games we are desperate to win are all if our home games and pick up some road wins. The State game is the one that really hurt in my mind we had a good chance to pick up a tough road win.

I really hope we don’t squander Monsanto’s absurd shooting ability this season

Forbes: "No answers for Davis. Did a great job on Bacot with 5 pts. We need to fix defensive transition."

Our resume for the committee right now is zilch. We have zero wins to hang our hat on. We have to do more than beat mediocre and bad teams.
