2023-2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Thread

Whenever I see Hinson dominate I think how that’s what Monsanto should have been for us this year.

C'mon, Cuse. It may surprise y'all that I didn't see this coming!

Virginia fell tonight to Pitt (!!) so if we can beat Beekman on Saturday, we'll have a real shot at a Top 3 finish. And you know what THAT would mean ... :)

How many official reviews have there been in the last two minutes of this UNC game

Florida stomping LSU so maybe we’ll wake up with a Quad 1 win that could disappear at any point

Indiana State - playing as a ranked team for the first time in 57 million years - loses at home to a sub-.500 Illinois State.

NET Update after last night...

Florida doesn't budge from #33 after escaping vs. LSU.
Virginia falls to #41 (from #32) after the home loss vs. Pitt. While the loss helps Wake in the ACC standings, it lowers the chances that the home win vs. UVA will be Q1. Need to beat the Hoos on Saturday.
Clemson up a spot to #29.
Pitt up to #53 (from #60). They are 6-2 on the road this year, which is better than all but a few Power 6 teams.

Wake up 2 spots to #37.

Interesting to consider minute totals from other coaches down the stretch compared to ours:

Filipowski and Mitchell play 38 each in the win against us
Hinson averaging 38 every game in their 4 game win streak
Mintz and Starling all 40 minutes against UNC
RJ Davis and Ingram with 38+ against Duke
Cattoor with 39 in the FSU win

At this point we know what we're getting from our bench - nothing outside of Parker and Monsanto. Need to have the Sallis/Carr/Reid combo on the floor for as many minutes as possible. We should be doing absolutely whatever it takes to keep Reid and Carr on the floor. I don't care if Reid has to let his guy score, take a play off offensively, use a timeout to get a breather. I get that Monsanto is an x-factor but I don't know that we can keep giving him Carr's minutes.

The ACC Commissioner just has to go. He let's every other conference control the narrative. Fights for nothing. Never defends anything. He could say we have the strongest league in the USA. Tobacco road is the toughest road in hoops. The fucker never says a word. Big ten and SEC form an illegal alliance. What does he say? Nothing. Just terrible. The ACC is being taken down by his ineptitude in everything that has to do with PR.

Hinson went off last night. Also threw up some wild shots that missed. One of the things that can beat the packline is good 3 point shooting, especially if you have a good stretch 4. Hinson might not quite qualify for the stretch part, but he does play the 4. The odd thing about that game was that UVA had been defending so well the last 3 weeks or so, but they reverted to their early January level of play - at least for a game. They didn't contest 3s as well as they normally do, and Pitt was also able to burn them on the high screen and roll a number of times. UVA rarely gets burned on that, so hats off to Capel. The worst thing about that result is they'll likely be out for blood Saturday. It'll be interesting to see if they continue the poor D or if they revert to full rock fight mode.
