MBB Game 32: ACCT 2nd Round - GT/ND - D.C. - Wednesday 2:30 - ESPN

Hopefully Forbes has a plan to help on triple Burton screens…and hopefully a small part of that plan is giving the heads up on moving screens to the ref.

Gotta love Kelly going 1/8 from deep in the game before he played us, then 1/10 in the two losses after... But hit 5 of his first 6 against us.

Burton is probably going to get his 20 regardless of what we do defensively or who he's playing. Duke beat them 20 while giving up 20 to him though. We just can't give up double digits to 3 other starters as well.

Notre Dame is good when defenses focus on stopping him above all else. GaTech thought they could stop him with double teams early and got absolutely torched. They ditched that plan, came back and even took a lead - but they weren't disciplined enough defensively to stop helping off Shrewsberry even though he was red hot. That's what you can't do against Notre Dame.

Put Boopie on an island tomorrow and hope he limits Burton to 20. Boopie is way stronger than him, post him and play physical offensively. We need the other 4 guys to play defense and to hit some 3's. We do that and it's a double digit win.

Hopefully we come out shooting well tomorrow. Surprisingly every team besides Miami has shot/scored it well so far playing in a larger unfamiliar arena, so I’m optimistic on that.

Agree with some of this, but Boopie is not "way stronger" than Burton and I hope we don't try to post him. Boopie got abused physically by Burton in the last game (at least that's what I saw) and I don't think he can guard him 1x1.

Boopie would give up 30+ to Burton if left alone, or he would foul out.

Shrewsberry shit the bed against us last time... I'd assume he plays better today.

Aside from Burton, that game against ND at their place was very much a rock fight.

Play intense defense and execute better on offense and this should be a comfortable win. But I'd wager it's gonna be a close game because we never have easy wins in the ACC Tourney.

Speed Burton and ND up in full court, maybe not all game but for good parts of it. They looked discombobulated when facing that pressure. And their offense was not the same even when they broke it.

Except for the soul-crushing three he hit after an offensive rebound with like 90 seconds left to put them up four...

He scored 31 against us when we threw a bunch of different guys at him, and we basically got lucky that Shrewsbury had a horrible night shooting (until the last one).

Burton will get his, just don’t let anyone else beat us. Fight above screens, don’t switch, and hope Reid and Carr can challenge his inside shots vertically. Hit a few 3’s.

Last time out we’d put Sallis on Burton and he’d switch on a pick and we’d have Efton out there guarding Burton at the three point line. Can’t do that shit again.

The official unofficial board meetup will take place at Rocket Bar around 1:30 PM. Please wear a name tag with your board handle on it, and dress in your best Wake Forest gear, but please wear shoes you don't mind having ruined by the floors.

(I am joking about the nametags and the floors, kinda, but you should still come and say hi)

I spent a few minutes looking for it to no avail, but I’m pretty sure one of the advanced stats bball creators basically showed how empirically poor the whole “let the star player score and stop everyone else” strategy was.

Which also makes some common sense — there is almost no limit to how many points a guy can score if you let him take advantage of a bad matchup.

Part of the reason why there are some vibes that basketball has gotten boring is that teams will run the same play over and over and over if a defense doesn’t do something different.

Yeah watch our second half at NCSU when MJ put on DJ hornes jersey to see how that works.

I predicted easy wins against ND, VT, and GT, before predicting a loss to Clemson.

In that same fashion, I'm going to predict a loss to ND today.

I was definitely going to lay some cash on Shrewsberry going off against us, until he played so well yesterday. He still probably will.

Just to be perfectly clear, moving screens are legal (as in a great ‘pick & roll’ play).
The call you are looking for is illegal screen which involves illegal contact.(running into the defender and not having yourself set, throwing out a hip or chicken-wing elbow to create extra contact because your pick missed.
Just clearing up the commonly missed term used by broadcasters. Now let’s hope they call a few on them!
