Yeah wfu class of 2000. One year, doing field jobs in Oregon, Hawaii, and the Outer Banks, 3 year MS in Zoology, then 4 years in a Ph.D.
And after that year of being shuttled about some of the ugliest parts of the country, you welcomed those dusty halls of academia.

It all depended on funding source in my program. People who had to teach took around 8; people who didn’t bc they got a national fellowship that covered 100% time (e.g., NSF or Ford Foundation) usually took 6.

COVID probably added a year to those estimates for my cohort and the cohorts around mine.

I was shifting from writing articles/chapter outlines to preparing for the job market right around the time when COVID started in March 2020. And then it was just two years of wondering whether universities would even bounce back while trying to write a dissertation. Academia is hell.

What in the fucking fuck was my wife thinking.

Isn’t the hottest months March and April? I was told that when complaining about going this June for work.

You would think she might have mentioned that given she's from there when planning this trip. But she wanted to go to some book fair. Then we decided to skip the book fair and stay longer in Tokyo.

Although I may never leave Tokyo

Plama yesterday I got to play the legacy of the beast pinball machine. Didn’t do so hot though - damn whatever those side exits are called that lead to death.

Iron Maiden? I've got that one. Yeah the outlanes are adjustable to either make it really hard or really easy. One of the main reasons I buy the games is so I can set them for easy and see the game, cause usually out at leagues it's set at hard (if it were set easy you'd be there all night in a competition with the good guys)

We just finished season 16 of survivor - fans vs favorites. What a mess that jury was. Two standouts:

Natalie asking Parvati how her game translates to the bedroom.
Ozzy confessing his love to Amanda & just yelling at Parvati bc she took away 14 days he could’ve had with amanda

Just a very very off the rails jury.

How’s the A5

Gonna find out! Our only reservation is at a wagyu place. It seems like way too much effort /planning is involved in getting a premier sushi restaurant. Like they require you to have logins and shit

Also making dinner reservations while travelling does interrupt the spontenaity. But I defs wanna just go to town on some sake bars

My dad worked on a tunnel project in Puerto Rico for a couple of years, but for the life of me, I can't remember which one. Something about connecting San Juan to the western part of the island.
