Wake-Maryland Game Thread

For all the bitching and moaning about Chennault he was 5-8 FG, 1-3 FT (we got one of his misses), 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, ZERO TOs and held the ACC's leading scorer to 6-18 FG and 2-9 on threes.

If you pencil that in for every game for the rest of the season, anyone would take it in a second....well anyone who understands the game would.

That's fine. For as good as he was in the first half on offense, he was just as bad on offense in the second half. He showed really bad decision making down the stretch.

TC played 40 great defensive minutes, 20 great offensive minutes, and finally played like an ACC-caliber player.

Very good effort. Ty has changed things. I see progress. Need a wide body

TC scored MORE in the second half than he did in the first on the same amount of shots. He the same amount of assists....

I like the framework this team is setting for next years incoming class. With continued improvement and some talent/depth we'll be good again. They play hard, there are no egos and they want to win.

He forced a lot in the second half, blew two fast breaks and the first pick and roll that Ty ever properly executed, and rushed that last shot.

I'm sorry, RJ. I don't know why you can't call it as it was...

Tony's defense on Stoglin was OG. He's a work in progress on offense.

TC hits that shot down 4 we win. He rushed it

how about Chase missing the 1&1?

Ty was our best player tonight. Travis would have been had he not been so badly abused on the defensive boards by Padgett. Tony was #3. No one else played close to as well as those three.

This offense got shooters a LOT of clean early looks at the hoop from three. That we (should say everyone but McKie) so rarely pulled the trigger shows either a lack of understanding that they just passed up the best opportunity to score OR zero confidence in their shot. In the case of Chase, I get it, having a bad shooting night - but if he's going to be out there, he needs to fire away when he gets a clean look. Otherwise, we are playing 4 on 5 because I don't see him as a facilitator.

I am proud that we fought our way back into this game but we need to be more opportunistic on offense.

ABSOLUTELY agree!

Chase missing the one and one hurt a ton. Then their 50% FT shooter promptly hit four in a row. Hurts.

What are you talking about. The pass was right in Ty's hands. He got it stolen.

If I'm not mistaken Tony was 3-4 from the field in the second half. The worst he could have been is 3-5 (he was either 2-4 or 2-3 in the first half).

He forced the last shot and that's all.

The main issue tonight wasn't the rebounding or the officiating, it was our god-awful freshman class. They went for 1-7 (1-5) (all Chase), 1-3 FTs, 5 boards, 1 assist, 1 TO, 4 fouls, and 4 points in 28 minutes. Get anything out of them and we win.

Chase's defense was much worse than him missing that 1&1, in my opinion.

And in what universe is it Travis's fault for struggling to rebound against an athletic 6'9 bruiser like Padgett? He had one of his better efforts on the board that I've seen from him this year (including last game). He was just up against significantly more formidable competition. Plus, Travis got called for a foul for boxing out Len, when Len went over Travis's back!

I liked Green's effort again tonight. I think he'll be a solid player, in time. You can't teach a player how to try...

Yeah, we lost the game, BUT........

- Travis had a very good game that could have been even better. He never quit.
- Ty had his best game ever and changed the way MD played around the basket.
8 blocks!. Great game.
- the team didn't quit and came back from a terrible run in the first half.....at an away game.

Overall, very proud of these guys tonight. Keep it up.

Well it was their first ACC road game. Green made some plays. Chase tough night. He usually drops a few more of those threes. Particularly that one in transition I think normally goes in.

The fouls were outrageous. Each of CJ's drives would have been fouls had MD done them.

The goaltending that was missed in the first half was obvious and came back to haunt us.

As to Padgett vs. Travis, Travis was never in position. It's semi-understandable as he was our entire offense. But he did get abused.

This is quite possibly as positive of a loss as there could be.
