Worst Team in ACC History? Wake 2012 might challenge Wake 2011

After this year, which team will be remembered as worst in ACC history?

The 1985-86 Bob Staak Wake Forest Team was pretty bad...IMO, much, much worse than last year's team.

8-21.

They had Muggsy...and that's about it.

That team that "quit" went into the final regular season game with a 14-15 record and knowing they couldn't play in the NIT with a losing record. They proceeded to win that game, then win 2 games in the ACC Tournament (getting us to the rare Saturday ACC Tourney game for us), before putting up a good fight against Duke in the semis.

With the chips down, those quitters rallied to get into the postseason.

They then played like dogshit against Minnesota.

Was also leading Duke at the half IIRC.

Yup. We were up by 4 I think. That team was the most disappointing I've seen. We started the year 11-2 and in the top 25, almost beating Florida, who won it all that year, in Madison Square Garden. Then we proceeded to go 3-13 in the conference. It was unexplainable.

If anything, that performance showed what kind of potential that team had to be decent - at least an NCAA bubble team. They certainly had more talent than the 3-13 last place record indicated.

Our schedule was a lot harder than it seemed early. We then moved Gray back to shooting guard and put Harvey Hale at point guard. We finally moved Gray back to point towards the end of the year.

Most people blame Gray's inability to play point as the reason we stunk, but even though he did struggle there, I think it was actually moving him off point that hurt us. He was still a lot better than Harvey Hale or Sha(r)maine Dukes there. And despite all that that, our offense wasn't terrible -- but we couldn't guard anyone, which really had more to do with personnel than anything -- Gray and Mike Drum on the perimeter, Visser trying to play the 4, etc.

....you can't let both of them off the hook for not having a PG.)

Sure you can, sometimes circumstances change and disrupt the best laid plans of everyone involved. Not looking to derail this thread with a CP3 v. Skip bashing contest that has been replayed numerous times. Just pointing out there is a reasonable alternative.

If someone put pictures of Brad Brownell, Mark Gottfried, Steve Donahue, and Brian Gregory in front of me, I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

I hadn't watched Clemson yet this year. So far... Woof. How did they blowout FSU?
