Paterno Dead at Age 85

As I mentioned earlier, I am not going to continue to talk about Paterno. Everyone has stated their opinion and there is no need to say it over and over and over again. You, feel free.

Fine, I'll change how I phrase it. The man who OVER SEE's the action of the police was informed of this. I'm interested in understanding what steps he took, or didn't take after being made aware of these allegations?

Ok? If you are interested in this case, this has to be a point of interest, doesn't it?

But this is a major point. Defenders claim that it was reported to to police when it was not. It was reported to the VP of Finance and Business. That is a FAR cry from reporting it to the police. That is at the heart of this discussion and weather you like it or not it very much has to do with JoePa.

ok, so someone oversee's police but has no ability to tell them to investigate? Ok, I guess that is another interesting factoid I would like to have explained.

So are you saying all of the charges brought against Sandusky this year wouldn't have been found if that guy had actually followed through with an investigation?

The guy quite obviously did nothing because if so, we would have found out about all of this several years earlier. Again, Joe Paterno and the 'police chief' completely dropped the ball and they get whatever is coming to them. In this case, though, only the police chief, because Joe Pa is dead.

thomas harmon, director of police, reported directly to Gary Schultz. Yes, if they had done a thorough investigation, these allegations (if true) would have been found out. harmon testified that he was conducting investigation and keep Schultz informed on progress. My question is around, what did they find or not find, and what happened after that? there are 'dark ages' in this timeline, and I want to hear, in trial (which it will go to because Sandusky said he will 'defend to the death') what happened?

Joe didn't drop the ball. He reported it to the AD, the director of police, the person the director reports to, and the president of the university. You act like Joe and Sandusky hung out with eachother when he was no longer on the football staff. Again, not going down this road, but there are blanks in the timeline, I'm interested in finding out what happened after everyone was informed? Even if, for argument sake, EVERYONE that needed to be informed wasn't informed, there clearly were enough people 'in the know' to have drasitc actions taken, and they weren't.... why? what happened? that's what I'm interested in learning.

And don't act like you know the answer, because you don't. No one does....except schultz, spanier, harmon and curley.

They did. The buck stops at the top, sorry JoePa, you should have burnt down the entire fucking school to find justice for all the boys that were affected. Sadly, he didn't and let the guy have his own office in the football facilities, let him use the gyms on campus, and who knows what else.

I don't care what happened in between, because nothing could explain the fact that he was still very involved in the school and the football program, even after he was 'fired.' Frankly, it's sad that you think otherwise.

My bad, didn't realize that you knew Joe and Jerry hung out all the time. well, then you will likely get called to the witness stand to testify to that. Good luck

I dont think of myself as perfect. Far from it. I've also made mistakes in my life.

But, I would like to think if I was in charge of a football program for 40 years, and I heard one of my former assistants was raping a 10 year old boy, I'd do a little more than "tell my boss" and hope for the best because "I didnt know what to do."

Give me a fuckin break. I understand, though, that it must be tough for you and PhillyDeac to comprehend that when your collective heads are shoved so far up JoePa's ass.

I thought that even JoePa had admitted that he should have done more? If we are trying to get away from talking about him then I'll respond to the issue of "the police being informed".

Are you saying this because you believe that an investigation was done and the charges found to be false? Otherwise, knowing that higher ups in the administration were told of the charges and knowing that there was no reporting to authorities, how can you not feel ire against PSU? I'm not sure how you are asking "why" no one was told unless it is because you think it is possible that this stuff didn't happen.

The reason why everyone that needed to be informed wasn't informed is because PSU dropped the ball in protecting innocent children.

Sandusky was still around the program, of course he and Joe would have had contact.

Harmon and Schultz are the 'authorities'. Do I think this stuff happened? Yes. But if you think I'm going to just go to the court of public opinion, people like TW who know nothing but claim they know everything, I won't. I want to understand after the communication to the Director of Police and his boss were notified, what happened next? That's all.

No, the authorities are the actual police.

What happened next was NOTHING. That's the point. What happened next WASN'T that the police got involved, WASN'T that an investigation was conducted, and WASN'T that Sandusky was brought in for questioning.

Yes, I know nothing :rulz: There are some simple facts out there, that no matter what machinations are done, will still remain and will still paint Joe Paterno as an enabler.

It's sad to see so many people succumbing to this cult-like mindset.

awakeandready,

To address your first point, Joe admitted he should have done more. He made a mistake obviously, and poorly misjudged a situation. I would be screaming if he never mentioned anything to anyone, but that's not the case at all.

Exactly. I don't get what is so hard to understand about this. NOTHING was done from the time it happened, until just recently. Who cares what happened in between? The recent events should have happened years ago. You know what that tells me and any other logical person? Joe Paterno, his staff and the upper levels of university management did nothing to stop this terrible man. They are all at fault and I'm ecstatic that they all got what they deserved.

I am honestly baffled by Philly's logic on this. I am as passionate a fan as they come so might be doing the same thing he is if Joe Gibbs was in the same situation but it really is crazy to see.

They haven't gotten anything yet...except fired, which is small potatos to what they deserve.

By actual police I mean State College police. No offense to WFUPD but if there are allegations of child molestation happening on a campus, I want an OUTSIDE (as outside as you can really get still being in State College) source investigating. Not campus police.

So everyone (penn state or not) who feels joe getting the brunt of this is out of line is wrong?

We are all wrong. Gotcha. Have a different opinion and you are wrong. I guess so, because as TW stated, Joe and Jerry hung out all the time together, even when they didn't work together anymore.

They are state college police. The police that walk around that campus have guns, take the same oath and are held to the same accountability as police in the next town. I don't know about WFUPD
