WFU / UNC Game Thread

You know he's from Philly, right?

It was driven by a very small number of posters.

More specifically those with Philadelphia bias and connections.

And the TC problem is why I'm hesitant to think it will be better next year. You just don't know how a 17/18 year old kid will develop making the jump to the next level of basketball. I just don't see 6 freshman (and these are not Kentucky style 5 star freshmen) turning this steaming pile of trash into a NCAA tournament team like some are expecting/anticipating.

Add in the fact that our coach doesn't exactly have a track record of coaching up players and we are fucked for years to come.

Me and my roommate are gonna roll the quad if Bzzzz gets fired this season. We know he almost definitely won't, but it was a fun conversation.

I never really followed recruiting or the behind the scenes basketball stuff before we started this board. I only ever used the opinions of people on the boards to guide me. The hype that TC got before getting here last year was astronomical. I look at his game this year and the latter part of last year and it's just mind-boggling.

I know he got hurt for most of last season, but jeez..

Nobody really asked or answered the question of whether he could shoot.

Can we please get a point guard in here who can knock down an 18 footer. So simple.

Lol Bilas already commenting on how quiet the crowd is.

Can you imagine how lame Cameron would be if Duke was as bad as Wake? You think those dorks would don their costumes and robotically show up to recite the cheers for 2-3 ACC win team? Doubt it.

I still remember the excitement when we finally fired Caldwell.

I also don't remember that much TC hype. I was expecting a physical point guard who wouldn't score much.

He has a great handle and is one of our only defensive stoppers. His shot is as expected, he is pretty tough and has been able to use his body to shield defenders and finish inside occasionally. His vision and decision making leave a lot to be desired but this is his first full year. He's ok.

Tony seems like exactly what he was billed by most as - a solid backup point guard who would probably start due to our desperate need to move our one legitimate ACC talent away from the point guard duties that were killing him. Laughable to suggest Fields is somehow ready to take over. He gets killed on the defensive end, is an even worse scorer than Tony, and his better vision is completely offset by his turnovers. He's been dominated by decent point guards - at least Tony holds his own.

The bottom line is Ty is better, Nikita is better (shockingly), Tony is serviceable, and CJ is being CJ. When McKie and Chase makes shots and play well, we compete. When they disappear, particularly Travis, we are bad. There's nobody to pick up any slack.

His handle is adequate, unless he tries to dribble into five guys in the lane when he tends to lose it.

The biggest problem (apart from the coach) is that we lose the third- and fourth-best players on a team that looks likely to finish in the bottom third of the worst ACC in history. We need at least two guys (looking at you, Carson and Chase) to make quantum leaps and two freshmen to be instant-impact players to make any kind of significant leap next year.

So what you're saying is that there's a chance?

umm, No, no he doesn't.

Are you kidding? Tony has plenty of shortcomings but he absolutely has the handle of a point guard.

Look at how often we were pressed last year (successfully) versus this year. He's quick enough and strong enough with the ball to make pressing us basically pointless. He just can't pass or shoot. It's not his handle that loses him the ball driving the lane, it's the decision to try it against 2 or 3 guys with good position.

Our post game next year is Carson, Daniel Green and 3 freshman recruits all outside the top 100.

Is CJ still having groin issues? Just saw him at Mizu and he was moving kind of gingerly.

Craig Smith and Jared Dudley at BC were two outside 100 recruits...Smith averaged 19.9 PPG, 7+ RPG as a Freshman and Dudley averaged 11.1 PPG and 5+ RPG as a Freshman. and they were both undersized. Smith was a 6'7 Power Forward who absolutely dominated everyone inside the paint in his 4 years at BC (If I were Mark Gottfired I would pick up some footage on Smith while Smith was at BC and tell Richard Howell to study this tape over and over and over again.)

Stop being obsessed with the star system, it has gotten us nowhere. Ty Walker and Tony Woods were both Five Stars. BC's Josh Southern was a 4 star, Clemson's Milton Jennings was a McDonald's All-American, State's DeShawn Painter was a 4 star, Melvin Tabb ws a 4 star, Alade Aminu (AFA's older brother, who wasn't very good) was a 4 star who was rated the 5th best center in his class in 2005...and the list goes on. Big man recruiting rankings is as questionable as it gets.

and stop dissing people who have optimism about the recruiting class. You don't like our recruits? We get it. No need to mention it on EVERY FUCKING POST.
