Basketball Recruiting Megathread 1.0 has run its course

Yah I mean I like the news on the potential 2014 class... but I'm worried about 2013. Bzzzzz could potentially always have a "young" team at his attrition rate.

Most years are weak years for centers. You will always be able to find more guards than wings, more wings than 4's and more 4's than 5's.

And Bz and the entire staff are probably getting fired in a year so all of this talk about 2014 is most likely trivial. I hope we make a good enough hire to keep the 2013 commits.

You are right 2012 is strong looking at the scout ratings.

The recruiting for 2013 and 2014 should be good regardless of who the coach is. Nearly every kid that we talked to this weekend (granted we were focusing towards players that mentioned us in the past) talked about the Deacs unprompted. Parents out there love the situation for their kid to come here at face value: playing time, facing off against the elite in the country, fantastic education.

Most of the recruits don't keep up with the coaching rumors or really college basketball as much as people think they do. This isn't saying anything about Coach [Redacted], but more of the fact that Wake Forest will almost always attract borderline to elite talent on name/conference affiliation/history and education alone.

I talked to Gladden at the CC and he said that Wake had all but stopped talking to him. I'm assuming that we may pick up that recruiting since we have some new scholarships.

We've also already offered him a scholarship.. I don't think the urgency is there with him after he reclassified. I'm not concerned at all.

I'll go back and listen to the interview. It didn't sound like we had offered him one though.

Says we have on Rivals. I stand corrected.

There are a few we could bring in and redshirt and have one year left.

Koang Duolony, 6-8, F, Jr., Indiana State

Woolridge is a 6'9 SF who is a better rapper than player. Duolony's best season was 3.8 ppg, 2.2 rpg while shooting 40% FG.

It's a weak crop to say the least.

The guys I wouldn't mind taking a shot at (in order):
Evan Smotrycz, 6'9, PF/C, Michigan - 2 yrs
Reco McCarter, 6'7, SG/SF, VCU - 3 yrs (I was a fan of his coming out of HS)
Brendan Lane, 6'9, PF, UCLA, 1 yr - IMMEDIATE
Carlton Brundidge, 6'1, PG/SG, Michigan, 3 yrs
Gil Biruta, 6'8, PF/C, Rutgers, 2 yrs
Alex Dragicevich, 6'7, SG/SF, Notre Dame - 2 yrs
Tommie McCune, 6'8, PF, West Virginia - 3 yrs
Jared Swopshire, 6'8, PF, Louisville, 1 yr
Curtis Washington, 6'10, PF/C, Southern Cal - 2 yrs
Ben Mills, 7'0, C, Colorado - 2 yrs (joke...but, reunite our dear bz with one of his recruits)

Mills really could be a feasible option actually because he was recruited by Bz already.

We were on McCarter for a while so that wouldn't surprise me except that we have a ton of players in that area already.

I have tunnel vision when it comes to athletic 6'6-6'7 wings... I'd take McCarter, McClinton, and Hairston right now no questions asked. It's almost needless to say that I'm extremely excited about Travis/Moto/Rountree.

Not only that, but Wake's always been able to lure in top 100 talent over the past 25 years regardless of the coaching situation. As much as we're limited in a lot of respects, Wake's really not that hard of a school to recruit men's basketball players to. I don't doubt that [Redacted] and his staff can consistently bring in 4-star guys just as I don't doubt that any coach we were to hire as a replacement would do also.
