Homebrewing Beer

I did all my fermenting at Wake in the dorm room closet. You don't need much space for the actual carboy, it's just the initial cooking and end bottling where you need work space.

Well hope has been restored then. Thanks.

I haven't brewed in so long... I'm really looking forward to the summer when I will have more time.

ETA: This thread needs more pictures. I'm going to take pictures of my keggerator I built a couple months ago and post them soon.

I think I'm gonna head up to the Wilmington Homebrew store for one of their all grain demonstrations tomorrow afternoon and see if I can't get the ball rolling on my own homebrew.

Or I could go play 18..... Choices...

I hate it when I have these two options...so I usually do both! Let me know how that new store is. I've been hearing good things.

Picked up a "Brewer's Best" starter kit (#1000) and the ingredients to brew a Cream Ale this afternoon. Hoping for a rainy afternoon tomorrow so I can get started!

Well, the Cream Ale is in the fermenter. How long before I can drink this stuff? Recipe says fermenter for 2 to 3 weeks, but how long after it's bottled is a general wait time?

I usually give it at least a week to bottle condition, and it definitely improves over 1-3 months.

I got a home brew kit for my birthday

I'm looking forward to reading this thread and getting started!

Cedar Bros Brews have released their first beer of 2012, the Dirty Ginger Irish Red Ale

Planning to bottle my first homebrew this weekend. Any tips? Anything I need to keep in mind during the process?

I'm already well aware of "sanitize, sanitize, sanitize."

Don't forget "sample, sample, sample."

My process is usually to siphon out of carboy into a plastic bucket to limit sediment, then bottle from the bucket tap. I've added priming sugar to the whole batch before, but usually instead I prefer to drop a half teaspoon into every bottle just to ensure uniformity.

Got a chiller and a bottle drying tree today at a homebrew supply store.

Starting a double IPA today, only our third attempt at a brew, and we're going for a double.

Finally got around to brewing my first batch of amber ale from the kit this morning. It was much simpler than I expected. Only issue was the funnel filter as I was transferring it to the carbouy. The filter got clogged, and I finally said screw it and removed the filter.

I always boil my priming sugar in 375ml of water for 10-15min and add it to my bottling bucket first. Then rack my finished beer on top of that and that ensures adequate mixing and uniformity. It helps to have a partner but this is not needed (one to bottle and one to cap) it just speeds things up. Just set everything up before you start then have at it. THe bottling wand is key and it easy to get used to! Good luck

Haha yea sometime I try to filter but most of the time I end up saying f*ck it about half way through for the same reason. It will settle out in the end anyway so its all good!
