Tampa trying to force fumble on kneel down: Cheap shot or no?

It's not at all like the Miracle of the Meadowlands. Pisarcek tried to hand the ball off on the last play. This was the last play.

The battle was over. Don't your put your team in position to be hurt by cheap shots in later games.

And if the Eagles had stood around with their thumbs up their asses like the game was already over, they wouldn't have recovered the fumble and won that game. Other than the fact that the Giants weren't dumb enough to screw it up this time, its exactly like the Miracle at the Meadowlands.

Golic (surprisingly) made a good point about this incident this morning. He said the Giants players knew, or should have known, by the way Tampa lined up on the play that they were coming low and hard and not simply giving up. The game's not over, Tampa had a chance to tie or win, play to the end. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Tampa should've known by the way the Giants were lining up that they were kneeling. There's a reason no one does this- you're not going to get the ball. So you're going to have your defenders dive at an OL's knees on a play that has a 0% success rate? I can see how the offense would have a problem with that.

You see fumbled snaps often enough in the NFL to know it is something that can happen. Down by one score with time on the clock, I would be more pissed if the coach or team DID NOT try to get the ball back. TB easily could have caused a fumble and gotten the ball back with a chance to win. The game was not over and they were not down by multiple scores so TB did the right thing in my opinion. I hate when NFL players and coaches try to cite tradition or unwritten rules as reasons for things. Those "unwritten" rules and traditions are what led to such things as bountygate, black QBs not being considered good enough up through the 80s, mobile QBs being discounted until the 90s, etc. Just because it's an unwritten rule or tradition does not mean it is right.

Giants lined up then like they were running a play, and they ran an actual football play (handoff to Csonka). The Eagles knew from the formation they had to play defense. Yesterday, the Giants come out clearly intending not to run a play, and they have players diving at their knees.

They lined up in a play formation for the Miracle of the Meadowlands AND they tried to make a handoff.

It was not set up to kneel. You are absolutely wrong.

Not dirty. TB has a shot to tie if they recover the fumble. If it was a two possession game then it would have been dirty.

Taking a knee is a play. You have to convert the snap from the center to the QB. There are bad snaps in every football game.

I agree with this.
Also, I would argue that were significantly more likely to cause a fumble because it was unexpected.

It used to be illegal to try to dive through one player to tackle/contact/force a fumble by another. If that's still on the books, I don't see why this wasn't a violation.

Regardless, while (apparently) legal, it's pretty stupid, because I would guess it's going to result in a lot more blocks aimed at the collective knees of the Tampa DL.

TB had one timeout left. If this was about "winning" and not a cheap shot, why didn't Schiano call timeout immediately and have them kneel again? They would've had another shot at a fumble, right?
