Totally Unofficial 2011 CL Knockout Stages Thread

I meant as in the past 5 years or so.

Spain and England have by far been the two best leagues in the world the past half decade.

4 of the past 5 seasons United have been in the Semi-Finals of the CL with 3 domestic championships (nearly a 4th) and now 3 of the last 4 years they have been in the CL Final with one win already to their name.

Barca have been in 3 of the past 5 semi-finals of the CL with 2 domestic championships (now all but a 3rd) and now 2 of the past 4 years they are in the CL Final with one win already to their name.

There is simply no argument which two clubs have dominated Europe the past 5 years.

This is right, of course. 10 years gets more difficult.

I'd have to concur.

SAF says Flecher has a chance to play in the CL Final

“Darren has put the weight back on and is back in training, but he has a bit to do yet,” he said. “But, as far as the final is concerned, there is almost three weeks to achieve that. If he does reach the target, it will be a big boost to us as we all know he is big-game player. The 20 minutes he got against Schalke last week was certainly a step forward. His training, in terms of sharpness for such an important game, will be stepped up now.”

If he does get fit that will leave Fergie with an interesting decision on who to start, I think. Does he sit Chicharito and play Rooney up top on his own? Does he sit Giggs and go Carrick/Fletcher in the middle? Or sit Carrick and go Fletcher/Giggs? Many options. I'd sit Carrick, but I'm sure that surprises nobody here.

I think you have to sit Carrick.

You think Carrick can handle having to play these guys again?

I cannot wait for the 28th. I'm not going to be sober past like 1pm. Much fuel for my rage machine will be consumed.

DV7, what are your thoughts on Park playing against Barcelona? He seems to be a more energetic version of Scholes in terms of his ability to break up passes in the midfield. Might be a good idea against the tika-taka pitter patter and SAF has gone to him before in big CL games before if memory serves.

Although... didn't he get left off the team completely in Moscow?

he started the game in Rome and missed a sitter off a saved Ronaldo free kick in the 15 minutes Man Utd were in the game

(he probably did other things too but that's all i remember)

I've never heard Three Lung compared to Scholes in any way, shape or form. So that's new.

And he will start on the left side of midfield with Tony V on the right. He was fucking BRILLIANT against chelski on Sunday (my MOTM.) He was also fantastic in the first leg against Schalke. His energy and constant pressuring of the opposition will be needed against Barca. Disciplined enough to keep his shape and soak up the pressure and talented enough to cause Barca trouble at the other end.

And correct that he didn't even make the bench in Moscow. SAF has called it one of his toughest decisions in his career. He loves him some Three Lung.
