    Official Pit Job Search/Employment Thread

That's what I was going to say; ask for vacation days commensurate with what you have now (or at least 3 weeks anyway). But I'm with palma, don't get greedy or overestimate your negotiating power if the reality is that you really would take the job either way.

Investment Thread - For all your money needs

Same ... I contributed to get the match in a regular 401(k) pre-tax, then outside of my company's plan I contributed the max to a Roth IRA (more flexibility and less expensive than the company plan). After prioritizing those I'd go back and max out the full 401(k) to $19k. Agree that whether...

I would try one of the robo advisors like Betterment or Wealthfront, pick a moderate portfolio and let them do the work for you if you don't have the time or want to spend the time allocating to index funds yourself.

    Huge fire in Malibu

Shouldn't they be doing controlled burns though, which they don't do in California? Controlled burns would remove undergrowth (fuel for the fire) and limit the size of any wild fires that do catch. He may not be that far off base, as annoying it is to admit...

What is the best 1-2 combo of back to back concerts you have seen or heard about?

I saw Tom Fogerty and ZZ Top on Wednesday, and am going to see Lynyrd Skynyrd tomorrow. Not two days in a row, but only two days in between and some pretty sweet acts. :) Other than those, I'd probably be thinking of music festivals... I can't think of another time I've seen two concerts in...

    ATP: Banking Recs

Thanks, all. Ally was one of the ones that came up in my quick research. BofA - never would have crossed my mind, interesting. Credit unions are a good way to go also, although I'm not eligible for USAA. I do have a separate credit union account that I use basically as a savings account...

    ATP: Banking Recs

Pit, what are the best options currently out there for regular savings and checking accounts? Online-only banks are fine; I don't need a brick & mortar presence. I currently use Capital One 360 (formerly ING Direct), and they just ruined the user experience with a horrible website upgrade...

Same here; I'd think it's just rounding for the investor presentation. Did the investor presentation actually go out two decimal points (20.00%)? And as timthedeac recommended, I'd check prior presentations as well.

    Penn State fraternity murder

After I read the article, I immediately wished I hadn't because it was so heartbreaking. Ugh... I really cannot imagine the pain his parents, family and friends feel. All of it was ridiculous, but someone punching him in the abdomen was a particular wtf moment. When I read it I could just...

    Official Pit Home Improvement/DIY thread

That brings to mind, if they do have to cut the pipes, make sure anything you don't want to have little rust particles on is covered with sheets. I realize it's in your basement, and I realize that is probably common sense, but my landlord had to cut (I think) the main pipe which went through...

    Best Airline Rewards Credit Cards

Good point. It's actually my 2nd most recent card. I got it last August for a Southwest Rapid Rewards bonus. I happened to be looking for a Southwest flight and I just couldn't help myself, haha. It's worth it for the first year but I'm definitely not going to keep paying $65/year after that.

Yes it's quick, with the Preferred an actual person answers the phone. I did it on my way to the train station this morning and the total call was 6 minutes.

    Best Airline Rewards Credit Cards

Finally got my Reserve card yesterday! Now I have to figure out how to spend some serious money over the next few months... I downgraded my Preferred to the Freedom Unlimited (1.5% on all categories). I still have the Southwest Rapid Rewards card, which has an annual fee, but they said there...

I had similar struggles in being consistent and her knowing not to jump on me, but doing it with other people. Training can be hard that way; with certain things I've just given up. lol

Investment Thread - For all your money needs

Depending on the amount, I would recommend a credit union rewards checking account where you can get 2-3% interest if you meet certain criteria. For a more aggressive approach, I've been considering opening up a Betterment account to see how that goes - they recommend a 60/40 stock/bond ratio...

I've used the leash method too, and actually with a shorter leash kept on her that she dragged around. Anytime she went to jump up we'd step on it. Not sure if this is what you meant when you said you've tried putting the leash on, but you could put a leash on him when someone comes to the...

    Best Airline Rewards Credit Cards

You guys who were approved on the spot are lucky! My application is pending... not sure why, but that has happened to me before with a Chase rewards card and they ended up approving me with (with a pretty high limit, so not sure what the issue that required review was). I called to see if there...
