Last night I heard a funny story about Gibson, I assume it is true. Apparently his last official pitch as a ML pitcher was a grand slam...not exactly how you want to go out. Several years later he faced that same batter in an old timers' game...and dinged him. He never forgot. That is ole school.

John never had the option to sit out of competition in order to preserve his draft status. He had to play every game and play well. He played injured, he played with almost no protection, he played teams that were vastly more talented. He played and played. He earned whatever he is getting by...

I seriously doubt that he could do anything that would improve his draft status more than competing and winning against the SEC. But, could it be that after practicing against SEC level talent at UGA he concluded that playing might severely damage his draft position? It's hard to imagine that...

I do wonder about the hardness of the greens, however. It doesn't seem quite right that in order to hold a green you must land 10-15 yds in front and hope the ball stops before rolling off the back. Even so, I much prefer a tough course where par is a good score and under par is exceptional.

I think he broke it by putting too much weight on it as he leaned down to pick up his tee.
