    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

So after the CFP rankings were updated ESPN is now projecting that a Big 10 team will go to the Orange Bowl. That would shake things up. If Virginia Tech isn’t in the Tier 1 pool, then I assume UNC would go to the Belk (?). I would think that there were be a greater chance of Wake going to the...

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

Updated bowl breakdown from Joe Giglio (who sees Wake going to the Sun) https://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/unc/article237936269.html

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

When I posted this I overlooked the scenario where Virginia Tech gets pulled up to the Camping World Bowl. That scenario makes it even more complicated. You’d expect that Wake, Louisville and UNC would be Tier 1, but now a fourth team would be needed and that would likely be Miami, FSU or Pitt...

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

I think there will be quick consensus that the Tier 1 Bowl teams will be Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Louisville and UNC (with 6-win UNC jumping 7-win Pitt). There are lots of possible scenarios, but two scenarios seem more likely than any others. Scenario #1: Virginia Tech to the Belk Bowl...

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

Updated look at the most likely Tier 1 bowl opponents. As always, the Big 10, SEC and Pac 12 bowl teams could be impacted by changes in the NY6 bowls. Pinstripe Bowl – The most likely Big 10 rep is definitely Illinois. Michigan State is also a possibility though. Belk Bowl – Kentucky is most...

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

I imagine we will see a lot of speculation that Pitt will get jumped by a 6 win team. We’ll see how good Pitt is politically.

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

With Duke in control, all we need is UF to beat FSU for Wake to lock up a Tier 1 bowl.

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

Military Bowl is now a possibility for Wake if Miami beats Duke. But even if Miami wins, there are plenty of scenarios that would keep Wake in the Tier 1 bowls.

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

3 Big 10 teams in the New Year's Six puts an ACC team in the Citrus Bowl. That would presumably be Notre Dame. That's the most likely scenario.

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

Looks like a lot of this was covered by other posters as I was typing it up but here’s my take on the implications of the VT loss… It’s clear that the Belk Bowl will want VT. But VT could also provide the Gator Bowl with the incentive it was looking for to agree to swap its Big 10 opponent for...

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

I took a closer look at the potential opponents in the Tier 1 bowls. At this point it’s easier to project the ACC opponents than it is to predict the ACC reps in these bowls. Of course, the Big 10, SEC and Pac 12 bowl reps all could be impacted by changes in the teams projected to go to the NY6...

    Special Teams - Substantive discussion

In 2018 the staff invested a scholarship in a post-grad to handle kickoffs. He reached the endzone at a reasonably good rate if I remember correctly. After the Louisville game I started wondering if the staff regretted not going the post-grad route in 2019 as well.

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

Just realized as I was posting about the 2-win rule that Wake still needs either 1) a win over Cuse or 2) losses by both Miami and FSU to be guaranteed a Tier 1 bowl.

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

I only mentioned that because my guess is that the Belk Bowl is holding out hope for a Louisville loss to Kentucky so that they could take UNC. Which raises another set of questions about how the ACC would choose the 4th Tier 1 team if the "protected" teams are UVA, Wake and Pitt. How would they...

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

Isn't it more complicated than that? Wake and the VT/UVA loser will be in Tier 1 because they've reached 8 wins. But if either Pitt or Louisville (on the road at UK) lose this weekend they could get jumped by 6-win teams like FSU, Miami or UNC (with a win this weekend would be an attractive...

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

I think most people are aware that, by contract, the Music City Bowl must take an ACC team this year and the Gator Bowl must take a Big 10 team. However there was some reporting last week that the Music City Bowl desperately wants to take Indiana and is looking to work something out with the...

    Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

I spent some time today coming up with bowl scenarios/projections if Wake finishes 9-3. First, some assumptions are needed to simplify things. I assumed: 1) Wake finishes 9-3 2) Clemson wins the ACC and goes to the CFP 3) Notre Dame gets into the New Year’s Six 4) The ACC doesn’t send a team...

I agree with this to an extent. Not sure how bitter we can be. I was just trying to provide a plausible explanation for what went down yesterday.

    Official Bowl Game Thread

My understanding was the Gasparilla was swapped for the First Responder and that Birmingham was going to be in the mix regardless. But your point is interesting. Wikipedia lists both the First Responder and the Birmingham Bowl as having higher payouts than the Gasparilla (about $500K higher). So...
