'17 Specials & '18 Midterms Thread

They all always kiss the ring. Republicans have always fallen in line. It’s what they do.

yup. they're always "troubled" by what the candidate/president said/did but when it comes time to vote, there's no question what will happen.

The Reversal of Pennsylvania's GOP Gerrymander Is a Big Democratic Win

On some races that have been discussed here before:

Chrissy Houlahan went from a district that voted Clinton by less than 1pt to a district that voted Clinton by 10pts. (Obama also won the district twice, with closer margins.)

Both candidates in the March special election were drawn out of their district, and Conor Lamb will be in a district with much closer margins.

In the Jess King / Christina Hartman debate, their district will be much harder to win now. I wouldn't be surprised if Hartman drops out, but I think (hope?) King can make it an interesting race.

I'm guessing we'll see some new names come up now that the districts are out.

This is cool.

That’s the idea behind, well, #wakandathevote, a program from the Electoral Justice Project, an arm of the Movement for Black Lives organization that aims to fight for the rights of black Americans. Now, the EJP, led by Kayla Reed, Jessica Byrd, and Rukia Lumumba, is using the opportunity presented by Black Panther to register black voters.
“This weekend we wanted to meet our people in Wakanda,” Byrd and Reed bold Blavity.com. “We know that for some it’s a superhero movie, but we know that the world we deserve is still waiting to be built — and we want to build it! This upcoming spring and November 2018 midterm elections are an important step in building that new world, and we want to take every opportunity to engage our communities in the conversation of electoral justice.”

People have been showing up for movies for years. How do you get them to show up at the polls on election day?

Spend 200 million dollars in entertainment, while somehow skirting campaign finance laws.

More people show up to vote than show up for movies. The trick is getting people who don't usually vote motivated to vote in some way.

Registering people to vote at movie theaters is the first step. That's a good way to get people who may not register on their own.

As far as enticing people to go to the polls, a national Wakanda the Vote effort could easily follow that up by showing the film near early polling places in November. That's a simple as showing it in a bar or civic center or church or getting a local theater to show it on the big screen. They could host Black Panther-themed Halloween parties encouraging people to dress up as their favorite characters and offer discounts if they have an "I voted" sticker.

There's plenty of things to do. It just takes a little creativity and effort.

The most recent polls show Trump's approval rating is dropping again as well. Rasmussen has him falling from a one-point positive approval rating to minus seven in just the past few days.

These polls probably haven't taken into account his recent tweetstorms either. Ironically his tweeting seems to be the one thing his supporters actually dislike.

She replaces the Republican scam artist preacher who sexually abused a teenager and committed suicide in December.

Yeah this was a weird race...his widow who ran as the R in the race sounds like a deplorable as well.

In December Johnson killed himself, two days after he was accused of molesting a 17-year-old girl. A day later his widow Rebecca, who has denied the allegations, said she would run for his seat. The Johnsons had previously generated controversy with their social media posts; Dan had posted images that depicted the Obamas as apes, and Rebecca shared memes that made light of domestic violence and drug use, and endorsed secession.

Of course she blamed her loss on voter fraud because Republicans now place blame on everyone but themselves.

As for Johnson, she blamed her lost on voter fraud, though state officials said they have not received any complaints.

“I’ve heard from and about people all day long saying they went to vote for me at the correct polling place and were refused the opportunity to vote,” she said. “It’s like we’re in a third world country.”

And this is what happens when you become the party of conspiracy theories.
