Not necessarily. I'm guessing his wealth comes from his business and he's been paying 15% to 35% on the earnings of his company. I'm leaning more toward 35%. Then he's paying taxes on the salary he draws from the company. I don't know where the donation comes from but if it isn't cash then he's looking at the new 20% capital gains tax if it is coming from investments. Then he gets to apply the donation toward a charitable donation. I'm guessing it's a wash but his company did pay taxes on that income.

ETS: I guess he could gift stock to Wake and avoid the capital gains. But I don't know a thing about his travel agency.
