2018-2019 MLB Hot Stove Thread

ESPN is saying it's for 13 years with no opt outs. Hopefully, it's front loaded and tapers a lot.

After all this time, didnt expect this. Seems like a bad deal for Harper, but hes set, so who cares.

Lol what a dumb contract. Signing anyone for 10 years, much less 13 is moronic, no matter how front loaded it is. Especially when it's this much money for an above average player. Good luck to the Phils lol.

Phillies better pray he's really good for years and years otherwise that will be an absolute boat anchor of a contract

This is awesome!

LA will now outbid the Angels for Trout's services and there is nothing Philly can do about it.

Dang, I like Jeff Sullivan and will miss his chats.

Can't believe a Bryce Harper deal didn't get leaked in the middle of Manny's press conference.

Wait, what has happened with Jeff Sullivan?

Loved him at Lookout Landing. Cracked me up.

When did Wellman and/or Frank Wrenn start negotiating for the Phillies? That deal makes the Manning buyout and the Braves' deals with Uggla and Upton look good.

Why? The Phils still have money...

Phillies could land Trout too, but that would really restrict their spending on the remaining 23 roster spots.

Not sure its the best allocation of resources is to devote 25 to 30% of your payroll over 11 years to outfielders.

Also, the Phillies must be hoping that the NL adopts the DH in the next few years because Bryce Harper was a well below average corner OF at age 25. The thought of him playing OF every day through his 30s is frightening.

All the talk about Harper going to the Dodgers, Giants or Padres during the last few weeks was just Boras using those teams to squeeze more money from Philadelphia. Harper was always going to the Phillies. Their ballpark is made for him. And with Hernandez & Segura at the top of the lineup, Harper is going to drive in a ton of runs. This also increases Hoskins' fantasy value. The Phillies' offense is going to rival the Red Sox this year.

Hopefully, the Phillies will catch the ball this year. It was painful last year.

Phils are still about $50 million under the luxury tax threshold. I think they’ll make a push for Kimbrel or Keuchel. Also, Arrieta’s money comes off the books after this year if he opts out, and if not, after 2020.
