2019 NBA Draft Thread: Hoard playing for Blazers in Summer League

The more I take in about the Sixers draft, the more frustrated I am. Seems like the real mistake was in telegraphing the pick so hard before the draft to make it so obvious their guy was Thybulle, and then giving up picks to Boston who went and got Carsen Edwards, who absolutely would have worked for the Sixers at the same 24 spot. Trading away the two early second round picks is also frustrating, especially because their reasoning doesn't make sense, it doesn't clear more cap space, and Shayok isn't going to be a contributor, he's on a 2-way. The only way it really makes sense is if they plan to actually give Shake Milton a contract and they couldn't get any of their guys in the early 2nd to agree to two ways or stash deals. In the end, the Sixers got their guy, but it doesn't really seem like they went about it the right way.

Welcome to reality. Barring a miracle , Brand should get a D at best for the draft.

The good news for Philadelphia sports fans is that even if The Process doesn’t work, after this year Bryce Harper will only have a bit offer $300 million left on his contract

Philadelphia has not been smart with how they used all the draft picks acquired during "The Process." Many have been squandered in deals where they overpaid for what they got in return. Not a good look for either jr. Colangelo nor Brand.

The non-Ben players Colangelo drafted:

Timothe Luwawu Cabarrot (Bulls)
Furkan Korkmaz (Fenerbace, Turkey)
Markelle Fultz (Orlando)
Jonah Bolden (Philadelphia)
Anzejs Pasecniks (not really even playing in Latvia anymore?)
Jawun Evans (OKC)
Sterling Brown (Milwaukee)
Mathias Lessort (Unicaja Malaga, Spain)

Players GM Brett Brown drafted
Kostas Antetekoumpo (Dallas)
Ray Spalding (Phoenix)
Khyri Thomas (Detroit)
Landry Shamet (LA Clippers)
Mikal Bridges (Phoenix), traded for Zhaire Smith

Two players that will be on the opening day roster for the Sixers next season. Brand didn't do a great job in this draft, but at least Thybulle should contribute next year. I miss Hinkie.

Aren't Smith and Thybulle the same player, except for the fact that Thybulle is older and less versatile?

Thybulle is bigger (6'6 vs. 6'3 {6'4}).

The problem is neither of them can shoot.

Any chance the Sixers can get Korver back?

Zhaire shot 45% from three his last year in college

Zhaire shot 45% from three his last year in college

He shot a total of 40 threes and never took more than two in a game. If he was a true 45% shooter, his coach would have had him shoot more.

He was a 71.7% FT shooter.

In eleven games in the G League, he shot 19.2% while shooting 2.4/game.

So, Aminu and Harkless are gone. Hoard really has no excuse not to make the final roster.

Sorry if this was discussed elsewhere...

It sounds like Hoard had a good summer league debut:

"Could Jaylen Hoard be an option at forward? The Blazers signed the undrafted rookie to a two-way contract and he impressed in his debut. He sniffed out opportunities for put backs and was aggressive attacking the hoop. Steve Dewald noted how he could be an interesting option for a Portland team lacking post players. Even with the loss, this was a good start to Hoard’s summer. He scored 9 points on 4-6 shooting and grabbed 6 rebounds." https://www.blazersedge.com/2019/7/6/20684438/recap-summer-league-blazers-anfernee-simons

Doral DNP in first Grizz Summer game but then 8/3 in 13 mins off the bench in second, 4/4 in 9 mins in third, then DNP again in 4th. Making the most when he can.
Hoard's 9/6 on 4 of 6 was off the bench in 20 mins yesterday while Nassir went for 2/3 on 1-6 shooting in 22 mins off the benchin only Blazer game so far. No other forward got more than 20 mins. Interesting to see how things settle out in tonight's 10pm game for Jaylen followed by Doral at 1130. Of course Nassir has 1st round gtd money so there is that.

Moore has a G-League season behind him. I doubt they need to see him play much.

Hoard with 10 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast on 5-8 fg in 19 min. Little had 7 and 5 in 22 min.

Not a bad start for Jaylen. Little is a freak athlete, but he has a long way to go. Always hard for UFA to make an NBA roster as a rookie, but think Hoard has a shot.

He had been signed to a two-way contract. Sounds like the plan has already been set.

Try to keep up.
