2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

For the first time now I believe Warren will win the nomination. She’s gonna romp Iowa and if she beats Bernie in NH while keeping it close in South Carolina to Biden she will be riding a huge momentum wave.

Obama was pretty well known. He was identified as a rising star after the DNC speech. He was also still considered a massive underdog and a minor speed bump at worst for Clinton’s coronation.

He wasn't an establishment candidate. He was new, especially compared to Hillary, Edwards, and Biden.

Because we're nominating Biden or?

Here's Jacobin on "It's 2016 All Over Again"

Regardless of who the nominee is. Biden would have won easily in 2016, but the Clintons nudged any serious competitors out of the way. But he's starting to have senior moments and just doesn't look good these days, and that's making him a weaker candidate. And you know what polls worse than Trump? Socialism. Trump is in the low to mid 40s these days. Socialism usually polls anywhere from 25-40% in popularity. Trump's 42-43% base is highly motivated, and GOTV of far left leaning folks ain't gonna beat that. So sorry, I don't see Sanders or Warren (who I recognize is not a socialist) beating him unless the economy totally tanks in the next year. And I don't know that the US is comfortable electing the candidate I like the best because he's gay. But sure, please send more righteous indignation my way.

yeah, I expect Warren will scalp the competition in Iowa

That's how we get candidates with lukewarm support. That's how we got Hillary.

Yes, he has always been part of the Dem establishment. Not as much as Hillary, granted, but much more than Edwards who was running the left wing campaign that year (after being 1 of the most conservative voting Dems in congress).

Warren can win but I would take that one poll showing her up at 11 in iowa with a huge grain of salt based on its methodology

I've been thinking over the last few weeks that she will be the Dem nominee. Sanders has a ceiling, and I believe Biden will fade. Harris and Buttigieg can't consistently poll in double digits. So yes by default. But unlike ITC, I don't think she will win.

They didn't win in 2016 with an unlikable establishment candidate.

Exactly. Obama and Bubba were popular (well, Bubba at the time and for at least a decade after, though not so much now) establishment Dems. And sure, further left leaning Dem nominees have a great history winning national elections. See Dukakis, Mondale and McGovern.

What’s wrong with running a campaign in August 2019? Where is the lie?

Warren is smart and is actually running a campaign. She’ll come up with a hell of a rebuttal. She has done a great job so far.
