I hope the PDC does try to put in some rule changes to corral Trump. My guess is that he will not cooperate or participate, and instead do his usual victim thing. He will claim the debates are being rigged against him by the librul media etc. Joe will declare that he is ready, willing, and able to debate under whatever rules PDC comes up with. Trump will come off looking cowardly and will leave everyone with the impression they got last night - which I did not watch, but I understand was not so good.

The only possible downside is that he does agree to debate under new rules, and whatever the PDC does inadvertently makes him look slightly more presidential. But there's only so much lipstick that pig can put on.

Yeah, that's why he with such facility boldly repeated their name last night.

It's not hard. "I disavow all white supremist groups." That's it. It's a simple sentence to utter.

Not participating is waving a white flag of surrender at this stage. That won't happen unless he resigns. One of my parents believed he'd ultimately bow out of the race before the election. Told me this back in August. Feels very far fetched. But as the hand writing shows more and more on the wall he may seek an escape hatch to avoid the humiliation of failure.

That gives him a lot of credit. I think he just says whatever comes to mind, and because he is a narcissist he says it whenever he wants to. I don’t believe he strategizes as much as he just acts/reacts.

This is true. I have a slight stutter, it was worse when I was young but I still get caught up on words and just can't get my mouth to get it out. Wife usually says the word that has stuck me and I can continue. When it is the first word of a sentence I have to totally start over and use a different word. It sucks when giving presentations (stress or excitement usually sparks it), so I totally respect Biden for what he has overcome. I try not to get put into those situations...

"Stand down" still implies that these people are doing your work and that you are their commanding officer. It's really not that different than "stand back and stand by."
 
Good point. Stand down suggests he’s getting heat so wait to do what he wants them to do.

I want to hear something from inside the administration about why they picked on Portland. Not a swing state. Not a city that Republicans typical care about. But Proud Boys and other groups have a large presence there. Trump could have picked other cities. Why Portland? Was it because they had tactic support from white supremacist militias? Was it a more tangible connection?

The best summary of Trump tax documents that I've seen is that he's very good at marketing himself and horrible at running a business.
 
The right has been painting Biden as some sundowning moron, and he came out and did well. None of what they've said about him was on display last night.

Now let's look at the other side...

The left has been painting Trump as a ranting, lying lunatic white supremacist who is too immature to hold any public office, let alone the presidency.

Which side was clearly lying and which was dead on? One was like a caricature out of an Onion article.
 
Why would changing the debate rules matter? There were already debate rules in place last night, that Trump agreed to before hand, and he completely ignored them. Let’s get some more rules for him to ignore!

When Trump was bloviating about how the vaccine was going to be ready In a few weeks (which my CDC wife was apoplectic about) I really wanted Biden to ask him to explain how a vaccine works.
