2021-22 Wake Forest Basketball Season - 25-9 (13-7), KP#33

If Marsh can get back and give us a physical presence inside we would be much improved. Big E got anymore eligibility left?

40% from outside is atrocious? Shot 51% for the game overall ... that's not bad for an exhibition game!

Wouldn't have thought the shooting was 40% for 3s while watching....may have placed too much notice on Mucius who had a lot of looks....

Mucius was 1-5. The rest of the team was 9-20. I’ll take that all day.

Oh NOW you are going to pay attention?!
Laravia is legit versatile, Alondes will play many minutes, Carter shooting well but still loose with the ball. Zay and Davien tentative, Hildreth plays hard and smart, not many guys forced things except Sy looking for 3s in first half. McCray can sky over everyone when he goes to the glass. Very decent crowd for exhibition. SOO nice to be in the Joel with other Deacon fans

Didn’t go. Have zero insight.

But feels like the type of roster where it’s going to someone different every night.

That’s a good thing, but probably caps our upside with no real studs.

This was a nice tidbit:

4. Bringing WSSU and Wake Forest together to play in a basketball game makes sense, but it’s not known whether this will be annual. Etienne Thomas, the WSSU athletics director, said she hopes to continue a great relationship with Wake Forest AD John Currie. “We definitely want to continue to do things together, and that’s something John and I have talked about a lot,” Thomas said. Another idea is for the two schools to play a doubleheader at Joel Coliseum with the Rams playing in the first game and the Deacons playing in the second half. “That’s something we have also talked about,” Thomas said.

Makes sense to play WSSU in an exhibition every year. Get more locals in the door to see Wake play and maybe convince them to come back.

The doubleheader is a great idea as well, especially vs. in-state teams.

Whitt looked great. So did LaRavia and Williams outside the missed tomahawk dunk. Hildreth looked good needs to shoot more. Sy had a poor first half looked great in the second needs to stay inside not out. McCray showed flashes. Walton and Mucius were non-factors. We need Marsh to develop and play. Even with all the height we lack a physical inside presence. Defense looked good length will give smaller teams fits. TO’s only became an issue the further down the bench we went.

This sums up a lot of my thoughts. Game was sloppy as are most exhibitioons. LaRavia and Williams were the leaders. Whitt played well by hitting the open 3's but again gets a bit careless with the ball in traffic and against the press. I would love to see more dribble-drive from our PG and create lobs for the bigs a la Trey Young! : )

As for the 40% from the three - a bit of fool's gold there. Almost 90% of our 3's were uncontested, wide open, great looks and we missed a lot of them. The good news is that it looked like we have a lot of guys that can shoot the three, so hopefully, their confidence builds throughout the year. Take away Whitt & Williams and that percentage drops, IMO. Plus, we won't get those looks against better competition.

I liked the defensive intensity, the steals, blocks, and effort were much improved over lesser talent. Hildreth has very active hands and a knack for reading the game.

Walton is is a big dude. Needs to get stronger hands and finish with power. Sy is interesting and Mucious started out well and then disappeared. Overall, I am going to give us a B-.

LSU beating Monroe 101-37 with 3 minutes left. Kind of scary

UVA losing by 7 42-35 to Navy at the half wow

Wake Forest dropped from #102 in KP last night to #105 this morning.

Looking for a big jump into the Top 100 after a huge victory this evening!

Deacons are #101 in Sagarin to start the season. They are a 14 point favorite against William and Mary.

Looking forward to tonight's game.

Wake starts the season with a win and cover. 77 - 59 final. Wake had a 29 point lead. The team needs to learn how to cover the backdoor cut.

damn, kenpom has us losing all 9 games from Dec 29 @ Louisville through January 29 @ Syracuse

It's funny... Last night's result took us from an expectation of 14-16 (6-14) to 15-15 (7-13).

But yeah, it's going to be very fluid until mid-January.
