It is that time again. The World Cup is just a couple weeks away now and the squad lists are coming in. In the past we have run anywhere from 12-18 teams and we will do a "live" draft once we gauge interest/signups and all rosters are officially turned into FIFA.

Here we will also pour one out for Brasky who ran the game four years ago.

Rules:

  • Live snake draft
  • 16 rounds
  • Must have at least 2 Goalkeepers, 4 defenders, 5 midfielders and 2 forwards
  • NO restriction on number of players from a country
  • Formations allowed: 5-3-2, 5-4-1, 4-5-1, 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 3-5-2, 3-4-3

Alternates:

Alternates work like we discussed earlier. They only come into play if one of your starters doesn’t see the field. Although you must maintain an eligible formation, or you will not receive points. You do not get to decide which alternate to put in, it goes Alt#1 and then Alt #2.

Scoring:

All Players
1 Point for appearing in a match
2 Points for playing 60 or more minutes in a match
3 Points for an assist
4 Points for a Penalty Scored
2 points for being whoscored.com's Man of the Match
-2 Points for scoring an own goal
-2 Points for a Penalty Missed
-1 Point for a yellow card
-3 Points for a red card (if two yellows, then just the -3 points)

Goalkeepers
4 Points for a Clean Sheet
1 Point every 3 saves
8 Points for a goal scored (unless it is a penalty)
-1 Point for every 2 goals conceded (-1 additional point if 5 or more goals conceded)
3 Points for a penalty save (does not count shootouts)
-1 Point for every 3 fouls committed
-2 Points for committing a foul in the area resulting in a penalty

Defenders
4 Points for a Clean Sheet
6 Points for a goal scored (unless it is a penalty)
0.25 Points for every tackle won
-1 Point for every 3 fouls committed (no partial points)
-2 Points for committing a foul in the area resulting in a penalty

Midfielders
1 Point for a Clean Sheet
5 Points for a goal scored (unless it is a penalty)
0.25 Points for every tackle won
-1 Point for every 3 fouls committed
-2 Points for committing a foul in the area resulting in a penalty
1 Point for every 2 “key passes” – as judged by whoscored.com
1 Point for every 3 fouls suffered

Forwards
4 Points for a goal scored
-2 Points for committing a foul in the area resulting in a penalty
1 Point for every 2 “key passes” – as judged by whoscored.com
1 Point for every 3 fouls suffered
1 Point for every 5 shots on target

PLEASE NOTE:

1. I am going to be "removing" eliminated players on the "Full Fantasy Rosters" tab. This will help everyone know how many theoretical slots they have to fill before knockouts (aside from players they may want to drop for injuries/lack of playing time)

2. As per the pervious WC Fantasy Games, the three round supplemental draft will only be for players to fill eliminated players or injured players. Players who have not played or players you do not want to keep cannot be dropped until the "ADD/DROP" period after the supplemental draft.

If you need an example: Tejas cannot drop Hans Vanaken until ADD/DROP because he is fit even though he hasnt played. Tejas can supplementally draft to replace Thomas Delaney who has been ruled out of entire WC because of injury or can draft to replace Enner Valencia who has been eliminated from tournament.

3. If all of your original 16 draft picks are still alive in WC and fit (regardless of playing status) you do not get a supplemental pick. You will wait until ADD/DROP for any changes you want to make. 15/16 gets one pick, 14/16 gets two, and 13/16 or less than 13/16 gets three picks.

If you need an example: Tejas finishes groups with 12/16 players still in tournament. He gets 3 picks. DV7 finishes with 14/16 players still in tournament and finishes with a player who is still in tournament but has been ruled out to injury. He gets 3 picks. SD3 finishes with 15/16 players still in tournament. He gets 1 pick.

4. Draft order will be a snake draft in reverse order of standings.

5. Roster position requirements must be kept going into Knockout Stages. However, you may choose to wait to resolve this until the ADD/DROP period.

THE ONE EXCEPTION IS ONLY 1 GK NEEDED FOR KNOCKOUT. THOUGH YOU MAY KEEP 2

If you need an example: Tejas finishes groups with 2 FWD, 5 MID, 3 DEF, 1 GK. He technically has 5 slots to fill. He NEEDS a DEF and GK. He can choose to wait and fill the GK or DEF until ADD/DROP if there are other players he prefers during Supplemental Draft. DV7 finishes group stage with 4 FWD, 6 MID, 3 DEF, 2 GK. He NEEDS 1 DEF and has 1 slot. He can choose to draft a FWD if he knows he is going to drop 1 FWD. However, his draft will be done and he cannot then drop that FWD until ADD/DROP has started. So he might risk losing better defenders. But that is a risk he can play

6. Each supplemental pick will have 30 mins to draft before they are skipped. If players are skipped they can come back and pick at any time

7. The ADD/DROP after supplemental draft will mirror that of the ADD/DROP after original draft. Add/drop will be based on posts IN THREAD. Players can only add every 30 mins to ensure everyone gets a shot at players. Posters are responsible for updating both their "Full Rosters Tab" and the "WC Squad Tab" so other posters can see who is available and who is not.

You may add a player another poster has dropped (if outside the 30 minute window).

8. Rosters are set before Round of 16 and will be set for rest of tournament.

9. Trades are legal up until Round of 16 starts.

Actually I may have emails from four years ago for those who have played before
 
Any help editing the WC rosters on the "WC Squads" tab would be appreciated. I am about halfway done
 
I've got about 45 minutes so I can chip in and start from Group H and work my way backwards
 
When you get access to spreadsheet, please add you cell # in the first tab. This will allow draft to go a lot quicker this week
