2023 WF Soccer Thread - NCAA Tourney 2nd Round - Hoosiers Visit Spry 5 pm Sunday ESPN+

An absolute trash foul call to give ND a free kick. The finish on the free kick was fantastic. But it was never a foul to start with. We outplayed them. But hate losing one late on such a really poor decision from the referee

Soccer Update:

The Men

The #3 WF men (11-1-4; 4-1-2) play the regular season finale at L'ville (9-4-2; 2-4-1) on Friday at 7pm (ACCN+).

With a win, WF secures the Atlantic Division title (WF can also win the division if Clemson loses against NC State; WF can finish no worse than #2 in the Atlantic Standings regardless of the remaining game outcomes). Even though WF is ranked #3 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll (WV moved up to #1 after beating Marshall; Marshall dropped to #6), the NCAA selection committee slotted WF at #7 in the pre-NCAAT rankings (Notre Dame, who was gifted a tie last week, is #3). Not sure of the committee's thinking when it downgraded the Deacs. This is significant as the top 4 seeds will have homefield until the College Cup Final 4.

The Women

The WF women (9-2-5; 3-2-4) play their last regular season game at Miami (3-9-3; 2-6-1) tomorrow (Thursday) on ACCN.

The WF ladies are currently 6th in the ACC standings; one point ahead of VT .

Why is that significant? Because only six women's teams make the ACC Tournament (which is curious given that the ACC Mens' tournament has 12 entrants; seems weird that the two tournaments operate under different rules). So, WF could drop out of the tournament with a loss or tie to Miami, if VT beats Pitt.

Hoping our Deacs secure key road wins to finish the season.
