Not sure how Kentucky could have planned ahead any further than giving Cal a lifetime ambassadorship contract for 1 million a year. Coach K is retired doing credit card commercials, Kentucky was going to pay Cal a million dollars a year until he died just to recruit.

Those claiming to be in the know on KY message boards claim that they offered Hurley. He turned them down, and KY upped the offer.

At the same time, they have been negotiating with Drew as they expect Hurley to stay at UCONN (Hurley is using KY to up deals for him and his assistants at UCONN).

If they can't get Drew, they feel like they can get Pearl. If they can't get Pearl, KY claims that Billy Donovan will take the job. Take all of that with a huge grain of salt.

Figured Hurley would want to stay put, but am surprised Oats and Drew said no. Would be even more surprised if Pearl said no. Biff, leave Shaka alone. After the bad Texas experience, I'm happy that he's getting some sustained success at Marquette, which is now the 1st BE school I've rooted for in years.

Drew and Hurley have good things going where they are. Anyone who has ever worked at a cancerous company knows money isn’t everything. Pearl is the one I would think would have the most reason to leave. He also seems to love the spotlight.
