2028 Olympics in Los Angeles

Just designate Beijing, London, Tokyo, Paris, LA as "Olympic cities" and put those 5 on a rotation so they each host every 20 years. They will have hosted 5 of the 6 summer games 2008-2028 (all except Rio), they all have facilities and infrastructure already built (and to the extent their facilities need an update from games 20 years ago, they all have needs for facilities post-games so won't just be built and wasted), and they all have interest in hosting (or did at least once between 2008-2028).

Last year, I had to be in downtown LA. It was easier and cheaper to take the train from Santa Ana to Union Station than to park downtown. I actually rode the subway. It was packed and fairly quick, but it doesn't go many places.

I thought we were currently part of the series finale of "America"? LA will probably be Chinese or Mexican in 2028.

I mean, the trains radiate out from downtown to Santa Monica, Burbank, Koreatown, Pasadena, East LA, Long Beach, and LAX-area, depending on the line. It's not the most convenient, but it's pretty impressive considering where it was 10 years ago.

The Olympics will probably fast track the rest of the metro development, which will be great for the city overall. Good point about the venues, but don't you think they'll want to update a lot of them?

Of course they will update some of them. I doubt they will events as far away from downtown as they did last time.

The '84 Olympics were a total blast. I was living at the Oakwood on Barham. ABC rented probably close to half the apartments (there were something like 26 buildings on the property). They had budgets for parties and spent it.

And of course they are thanking Donald Trump for helping to bring the Olympics back to the U.S. All a part of his "Make America Great" plan of course! Let the games, expenses and cost overruns begin! Nothing gets done in Cali without the Left Coast worrying about the spotted tree frog and such.

Yo RJ, can we all crash at your pad in HB ? Will it expand our minds ?

He had little to nothing to do with it. At least in CA, we don't worry about who is in our bathrooms.

Are you saying the metro (above ground train) or the subway, which has already commenced construction? The latter would be very cool although I don't think it's expected to be done within 10 years.

There are both above ground and subway lines in operation already.

Sorry to make this a non-sports thread but that is incorrect, RJ. This is a real subway being built, underground and everything. It's schedule to be completed in 2024 now, while the initial timetable was 2035! It will run from Wilshire and Western, basically along Wilshire Blvd to the VA in Westwood except for a detour through Century City.

Red, purple, expo, and blue lines already run underground.

Gold and green, to my knowledge, exclusively run above-ground.

I meant in West LA/ Bev Hills/ Santa Monica- places where people might actually want to go when in town for the Olympics. Thanks for the refresher on the subways though. I haven't ridden any of those lines.
