ACC Sports Journal: Ron Wellman’s Risky Call

Wellman is not deterred. He has made it clear internally that he expected problems, to the extent that he’s willing to essentially wipe the first two seasons off the books, and that [Redacted]’s performance in season three exceeded what Wellman expected. Off the court, he sees a program behaving in the Wake Forest way.
I'm, ugh, I'm...speechless. There are no words. The man has completely lost his mind.

"you have a group, which includes a number of top donors and trustees, who are supporting Wellman. They are lumped with other fans who believe that the program should be supported no matter what, and that the ads and other steps are embarrassing Wake Forest."

In all the discussion concerning boycotting the WFU product it may come down to boycotting the product of the BOT's. Do not believe they receive a stipend from ESPN so trustees like Don Flow, auto retail could suffer. One other BOT Jeff Young is in furniture mfg...Need to organize a boycott of their products. Hit them in the pocketbook and change will be forthcoming. If you know other trustees and their employment, ditto...

The best thing in the article is the statement that Ron is 65. You are allowed to retire at Wake when you are 65. That might solve a lot of problems.

Just when you think the posts couldn't get any more strange, they do.

I wonder if Don Flow might be getting the least bit uncomfortable having his name hitched with this disaster. After all, the man sells cars.

If the Stratton boys want a truly laser-like attack, I think this would be their next target. Get the car guy hot under the collar from some heat and things fall quickly.

Crown auto is just 30 miles down the road.

Just my 2 cents.

Is there a billboard across from the dealership?

Seriously, great article, but depressing cliff notes. The billboard is the only thing that we have to look forward to. We need to launch that in Dec/Jan next year.

"Wellman has built trust through years of great work with the athletic program: a completely new financial base..."

Just as we suspected, he does not need the DC anymore. Contributions to the DC are no longer necessary so Ron gets a big laugh at how gullible the Wake fanbase really is. Everytime he hears someone say that they will stop contributing to the DC; he smugly grins at the thought of how much slush money he has already sucked out of them.

Oh, Jesus Christ!

Fuck.

Yeah, right.

[Redacted] exceeded expectations in season 3???? Where's the video where Bzzz himself prior to the season is proclaiming the expectations were a winning season and postseason play? If Wellman truly believes that then he is truly delusional and probably needs to be replaced worse than [Redacted] does.

What's strange about it?

"However, even internally, Wellman is not positioning this next year as a make-or-break season for [Redacted]. So let’s be honest, barring a massive breakdown or player defections (which the coaching staff is confident right now won’t happen), it would appear that by keeping [Redacted] for next season, you’re really committing to possibly three more years of him."

This is by far the most terrifying paragraph.

Great article. Really sums up everything quite well. Too bad Ron couldn't have worked out a deal with Larrangra. He's a heck of a coach. Coaching staff confident they are going to get big time recruit. Might go from Buzz out to Buzz in if they can land Black

This is worse than terrifying. If this is true, it's the end of Wake Forest basketball.

We should seriously leave the ACC and join the Southern Conference. That's clearly what Hatch and Wellman would prefer.

Regarding passing off Larrangra for Buz reminds me of an old saying; "The Bitterness of Poor Quality Lingers Long After the Sweetness of Low Price is Forgotten"...

I got to here and had to stop reading.

If you really stopped reading, I would suggest continuing - it's a very well written article.

That being said - it is absolutely depressing beyond belief. We really have shot ourselves in the foot for the next decade...

Wellman's legacy is a sinking ship.
