It's late afternoon, my wife is out of the city on a business trip and I'm drinking already. So ask away about life "behind the Iron Curtain".

Is the ass as hot as hostel suggests?

In general, yes.

Women here just "try" harder than in most parts of the world. It'll be 10 below 0 in Moscow and they will still have heels and nylons and short skirts on. They would starve or freeze before they were unglamorous. Seeing a girl out in public in sweatpants and no makeup just would never happen. Ever.

I would rank the hotness levels as such:

#1 - Poland
#2 - "South" Slavs (former Yugoslavia - Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, etc)
#3 - "East" Slavs (Belarus, Ukraine, Russia)

There's a lot of really hot central asian girls in the former Soviet States as well, but they aren't truly "eastern european"

Why are you there?

Italian women dress well too

Wife is working Moscow (she's a specialist in former Soviet states nuclear arsenals) and I do consulting work around Eastern Europe when I'm not sitting at home doing nothing.

I'm married to a Sicilian. Italian women don't dress well. Italian men do.

How cold does it get in the winter? How much yearly snowfall?

Sicily ain't Italy

Northern Italian women dress well

It gets extremely cold - this year's winter was actually fairly mild (only got -30F a couple of brief times). The snowfall isn't that bad unless you're near the coast, which most of Eastern Europe isn't even remotely close too.

The Balkans obviously are much warmer than Russia / Poland / Belarus though. I mean, Eastern Europe is an enormous piece of land.

How would you rate the cost of living over there? Comparable to the US?

Moscow is extraordinarily expensive. Cost of living for what we'd consider an American quality of life is close to NYC prices, if not higher in some ways.

Other cities are much cheaper. Places like Kiev, Warsaw, Zagreb, Belgrade, etc ... are probably more like Charlotte in cost of living.

Sicily isn't Italy, obviously.

Agree to disagree on Italian women dressing well. I spend plenty of time there, only country where the men are prettier than the women (which is why I shop there!).

What is the internet like? Is broadband readily available? Fiber in any places?

Tell us about the Rusky mafia

Um, they're the government?

The reality is that Russia doesn't have a high level of petty crime, but that the difference between organized crime and the government is a very blurry line that can be hard to tell. I mean, is it really crime if the "elected" government approves of the behavior?

Broadband is widely available in the big cities, fiber in the newer industrial parks (like Moscow's Skolkovo development).

In general, the more rural areas do not have great access to broadband services - even in the EU parts of Eastern Europe such as Poland and Hungary.
