We’ll see how this impacts the ACC and other sports. It would be interesting if we all of a sudden had some extra games to sell.

It's a bad thing if Bally's checks bounce or payments are delayed especially if the cash has already been earmarked (or even worse - already spent).

And I'm looking at this strictly from a Wake perspective. I couldn't care less if the other ACC schools have to use more debt to finance the day to day AD operations.

This is a much bigger issue for NBA, MLB, and NHL than college sports. I wouldn’t be surprised if a streaming service swooped in and scooped up the content if the RSNs dry up completely.

In the near-term nothing will change.

Ultimately there will be a buyer, but no guarantee that the buyer will change much.

SBGI overpaid for the RSNs when they had to be divested a few years back. They've since spun them out, as they were doomed to bankruptcy. Somebody will buy them for the content, but it has been tough to monetize.

The big problem is that these channels have no valuable content except for some hours on the weekend and some weeknights.

i assume this affects only the sports broadcasting situation, not other lines of business like casinos, yeah?

Sounds like NBA, MLB, and NBA may team up to buy them. Not sure where the college content would fit in that model.

Stephen A is popular and provides a ton of content including viral clips and the like. ESPN covers breaking sports news and feeds the urge for 24 hour hot takes. Some people go to Twitter, some to message boards, and some to Stephen A and others on ESPN.

Unrelated to Bally, but Stephen A was on Howard Stern last week and told a story about how Walt Chyzowych helped him early in his career. In a nutshell he said that Walt gave him full access as the Wake soccer beat writer but felt like Stephen A was writing fluff and not being hard enough on the team/coaches when they screwed up. It obviously stuck with him through the years.

so basically it's Wake's fault that Stephen A Smith created the asshole media industry that has made ESPN unwatchable?

That tracks

Nah. The big problem is they way overpaid for the content they do have (live pro sports in certain markets). Filling the other slots with shitty content is easy. Look at what ESPN does (and has been doing more and more over time).

Jim Rome weeps. The “Chris Everett” clip is almost 30 years old.

The asshole media industry thrives on AM radio for decades.

Right. Filling other slots is easy but instead of engaging sports talk and news, RSN have replays and fishing shows. ESPN figured out decades ago how to program around only having an evening of content.

Hold up. You are obviously forgetting the best show on TV: Driven: The (fill in random person’s name) Story.

That's a good story and I assume it's 100% true, but Smith was a college basketball player and probably extremely green. What kind of reaction do you think Walt would have had with a bunch of ignorant takes from a 23-year old basketball player. Have you read some of the stuff on the soccer threads on this board from people who clam to "know soccer" ?
