BBall Recruiting Thread 2k16- SJM, Washington, Childress & Mitchell sign NLIs; 2017?

We wanted Wright, no reason to pretend otherwise. McEwen is still out there and I'm glad Kwe Parker hasn't committed anywhere else yet.

Great post. A few things:

Koby McEwen is a must sign player now and Utah State really should not be a problem head-to-head.

Does this mean that the staff takes Zach Norvell's recruitment more seriously? He has alluded to Wake being among the five schools that he wants to visit.

Do we take a commitment from Kwe?

Whatever happened to our prospects with Curtis Jones?

I would prefer any of those guys over Nathan Hoover, who we offered recently. Hell, I'd take Jalen Johnson at this point.

Our 2016 class is slowly turning into a bit of a clusterfuck. Granted, not all of these offers were realistic, but here's the list of 2016 recruits who Manning offered and who chose to go elsewhere:

Rawle Alkins: SG, 5-star - ???
Tyus Battle: SG, 5-star - Syracuse

The real irony on the Eli Wright front is that the concern was twofold: 1) he had serious internal player issues; 2) he couldn't recruit anymore. That said, Wake wasn't the only school that passed on him.

Oh we passed on Wright? Do tell.

BBall Recruiting Thread 2k16 - McEwen (8/28) & Giles (9/19) visiting! Wright ...

Pretty sure he meant we passed on Ben Howland, not Eli Wright.

He has some pretty serious antecedent issues.
He being MichDeac. See what I did there?

FIFY

And "concern" #2 was as stupid then as it is now.

There was an entire SI issue about how his issues with recruiting. Anyway, we'll see how it all shakes out.

It was a stupid article. Howland's last class (that he was able to coach) featured three McDonald's All-American. The only recruit in that class that wasn't a burger boy was still a Top 50 recruit.

It'll be interesting to see what he can do with this talent when he gets them on campus.

If we were even recruiting half the people on that list seriously we are losing out recruits to some shitty ass programs. Which makes a lot of sense when you step back and look at our now shitty ass program minus the prior history and some success.

Yep. That one extra year of Bz made it that much harder to sell Wake to the 2016 class.

Yeah we're in pretty deep trouble for '16, esp if Koby can't save us. Wright is Manning/Chill's biggest miss to date. Been recruiting him for a year.

The issue in question involved him pissing off Southern California AAU programs, iirc.

WGAF.

I follow UCLA basketball recruiting and Howland's recruiting was arguably his strength throughout his time in Westwood. Howland's 2012 class included three consensus five stars (Anderson from NJ, Parker from GA, and Shabazz from NV) and a 4-star player from Oak Hill. Parker is going to be a senior; the rest of these guys play in the NBA. The year Howland was fired, he signed Hamilton (5-star from SoCal) and LaVine (from MA). Howland also did some serious work on the Kevon Looney (from WI) recruitment before he was let go.

As was the case then, Howland's worst classes at UCLA would be among our best of all time.

This is a stupid debate, however, as we're getting owned on the recruiting trail by two guys - Pearl and Howland - that many on here considered to be overrated recruiters and who landed in pretty historically miserable SEC programs.

Harry Giles will visit Wake Forest on 9/19, UNC on 9/25, Kansas on 10/10, UK on 10/16 and Duke on 10/31, his father told @CBSSports.

Interesting we wouldnt even have him in on a football weekend. Maybe there will be a sweet party happening in the Dke basement tho

More hopeful about Koby since his quotes about Danny were very positive and Eli described him as "blunt" or something like that.
